Saudi-European relations: Faisal bin Farhan and Kallas discuss

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received in Riyadh today the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Callas. This important visit comes within the framework of strengthening Saudi-European relations and exploring ways to develop joint cooperation in various fields, particularly in light of the rapidly evolving geopolitical challenges facing the region and the world at large.
Dimensions of the strategic partnership and the development of Saudi-European relations
During the meeting, the existing strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the European Union was reviewed, and ways to enhance it to broader horizons in a manner that serves the common interests of both sides were discussed. The two sides also addressed the latest developments in the Middle East region and their security and economic repercussions on the international stage, emphasizing the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and achieve stability and lasting peace.
This high-level meeting was attended by His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral International Affairs, Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, and Her Excellency the Head of the Kingdom’s Mission to the European Union, Ambassador Haifa Al-Jedaie, reflecting the great importance that Saudi diplomacy attaches to coordinating positions with European partners and deepening channels of continuous communication.
The historical and diplomatic context of cooperation between Riyadh and Brussels
The bilateral relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the European Union is based on a long history of continuous and fruitful economic and political cooperation. For decades, the EU has been a key trading and strategic partner for the Kingdom. These current discussions come at a time when Saudi foreign policy is actively working to build bridges with influential international powers, particularly with the appointment of Kaya Kallas as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. This opens a new chapter of joint coordination to address pressing regional crises such as the Palestinian issue, the situation in Yemen, and the security of vital waterways in the Red Sea.
The strategic importance and regional and international impact of the talks
These discussions are of paramount importance at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally and regionally, the Kingdom seeks, through strengthening its international partnerships, to support the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and achieve regional stability, which is a fundamental pillar of sustainable economic development. Internationally, Saudi-European coordination contributes directly to the stability of global energy markets and the security of supply chains, as well as bolstering efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.
The convergence of views between Riyadh and Brussels on the need to adhere to international law and resolve disputes peacefully gives this partnership significant political weight that can positively influence the formulation of international decisions related to the security and long-term economic and political stability of the Middle East.
