Faisal bin Farhan meets his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo to discuss regional developments
As part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two major regional powers in the Arab world, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today in Cairo with His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriate Affairs. This visit underscores the deep-rooted fraternal and strategic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Strengthening bilateral relations and strategic partnership
The two sides began their meeting by discussing ways to strengthen the robust bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and exploring mechanisms for their development across various political, economic, and security fields. Saudi-Egyptian relations are of particular importance given the weight of both nations and their direct influence on events in the Middle East. Riyadh and Cairo represent pillars of stability in the Arab region and share common visions regarding many current challenges.
Developments in Gaza and the region
The pressing regional issues formed a central focus of the discussions, with developments in the Gaza Strip topping the agenda. The two ministers discussed efforts to halt the military escalation, the need to protect civilians, and the importance of ensuring the urgent and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid. This discussion comes within the context of intensive diplomatic efforts led by the Kingdom and Egypt to garner international pressure for a ceasefire and the revival of a just and comprehensive peace process based on the two-state solution.
Sudan, Yemen and Somalia files
The discussions were not limited to the Palestinian issue, but also included the situation in Sudan, where both sides emphasized the importance of prioritizing dialogue and ending the fighting to preserve Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions. The meeting also addressed the Yemeni crisis and ways to support efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to end the conflict, in addition to discussing the situation in Somalia, where the two ministers reiterated their countries' support for Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of security and political challenges.
Coordination of Arab positions
These discussions reflect the two countries' keenness to coordinate positions on issues of common interest, especially given the delicate circumstances the region is experiencing, which necessitate concerted Arab efforts to confront security and geopolitical challenges. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Saleh bin Eid Al-Hussaini, and the Director General of His Highness the Minister's Office, Waleed Al-Smaeel, reflecting the high level of interest in the outcomes of this visit.
