Saudi Arabia wins silver at the 2025 World Robot Olympiad, first among Arab nations

In a new scientific and technological achievement added to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's record of international successes, the World Robot Olympiad (WRO 2025), hosted by Singapore from November 26 to 28, concluded with wide participation from over 90 countries across the globe. This global event culminated in the Saudi team, comprised of students Sari Al-Qahtani and Abdulrahman Al-Rashid, achieving first place in the Arab world and winning the silver medal globally in the "Future Creators" category. This was their first international participation, reflecting the high quality of educational and technological output in the Kingdom.
A smart project to explore Mars
This year, Saudi Arabia's participation was distinguished by a unique and innovative project: the development of a self-driving robot powered by cutting-edge artificial intelligence. This robot was specifically designed to serve the goals of space exploration, particularly of Mars, where it possesses the ability to analyze soil and the environment, plant seeds, and search for indicators of the potential for life beyond Earth. This project is the fruit of a successful strategic partnership between the Tuwaiq Academy and Misk Schools, generously sponsored by the Saudi Space Agency, underscoring the collaborative efforts of national entities to support innovation.
Preparation and intensive training journey
This victory was no accident; it was the result of diligent and continuous work. Students Sari and Abdulrahman underwent an intensive technical training camp held at the Tuwaiq Academy for several months. The camp employed a practical educational methodology under the supervision of a select group of experts and specialists. It provided the team with the latest tools and advanced technologies that meet international standards for Olympiad competitions, enabling them to hone their skills and achieve full readiness for global competition.
World Robot Olympiad: A platform for shaping the future
The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is one of the world's most important annual technology competitions, bringing together young people from around the globe to develop their creativity and problem-solving skills through educational robotics competitions. The event's significance lies in its role as a platform for discovering young talents who will lead the way in future technological development, challenging them to create innovative solutions that serve various vital sectors.
The impact of this achievement on the Kingdom's Vision 2030
This achievement carries significant implications that extend far beyond simply winning a medal; it reflects the success of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals in building a vibrant society and a thriving, knowledge-based, and innovative economy. It also highlights the Kingdom's pivotal role in the fields of space and artificial intelligence, reinforcing its position as a regional and international technology hub. The Saudi Space Agency's support for such youth-led projects underscores its commitment to developing the space sector and empowering future generations with the tools to compete effectively and competently on the international stage.
