Saudi Arabia is represented on the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Journalists

In a historic move reflecting the significant development of the Saudi media sector, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a prominent international milestone by winning a seat on the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). This exceptional victory grants the Kingdom a leading role in guiding the Federation's work for the next four years and marks a first in the history of Saudi representation within this prestigious global media organization. This achievement is the culmination of sustained efforts, with the election of Mr. Adhwan Al-Ahmari, President of the Saudi Journalists Association, as the Kingdom's official representative on this esteemed committee.
A long history and pioneering career at the International Federation of Journalists
To understand the magnitude of this achievement, one must consider the historical context of the media entities involved. The International Federation of Journalists(IFJ), founded in Paris, is the world's largest organization for journalists, representing hundreds of thousands of media professionals in more than 140 countries. Since its inception, the IFJ has aimed to protect journalists' rights and defend press freedom. In contrast, the Saudi Journalists Association boasts a distinguished history spanning over 22 years, during which it has worked to elevate the profession and develop national talent, making it a competitive and influential professional organization with a strong presence on the international stage.
Fierce international competition reflects global confidence
This victory did not come easily; it was achieved amidst fierce international competition at the conference. More than 148 countries vied for the available seats, but only 16 were able to secure membership on the Executive Committee. This number clearly reflects the significant international confidence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and underscores its growing and influential position in the global media and journalism sector.
The strategic impact and gains of local and regional media
This Saudi presence in international media institutions carries significant strategic importance. Domestically, this achievement aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to enhance the Kingdom's soft power and project a positive image globally. Regionally and internationally, it opens up broad opportunities for greater Saudi and Arab participation in shaping global journalism. It also provides a platform to share Saudi Arabia's advanced media experience on the international stage and contributes to advocating for regional issues with a clear and impactful perspective.
Official statements and active participation in the French capital
Commenting on this significant event, Professor Adhwan Al-Ahmari affirmed that this victory reflects the confidence of international professional associations in the tangible efforts undertaken by the Saudi Journalists Association since its inception. Al-Ahmari added, “This achievement is the fruit of the labor of my colleagues on the Board of Directors and the General Secretariat. We have already fulfilled part of the Association’s objectives through our international presence, first by chairing the Executive Office of West Asian Journalists, and now by winning membership on the Executive Committee. We will continue our diligent work to achieve a greater international presence befitting the Kingdom’s stature.”.
It is worth noting that the Saudi Journalists Association participated actively in the International Press Congress held in Paris, France. The Saudi delegation, headed by Al-Ahmari, included several board members: Lama Al-Shathri, Mai Al-Sharif, and Hamed Al-Shehri, who contributed to strengthening communication with international delegations and highlighting the leading role of Saudi media.
