Saudi Arabia welcomes the agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF to unify institutions

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong welcome for the statement issued by the Syrian government announcing a ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). This agreement comes as part of a comprehensive settlement aimed at integrating the institutions of the Autonomous Administration in northeastern Syria into the official structures and institutions of the Syrian state, a step considered a pivotal turning point in the Syrian crisis.
Saudi support for Syria's sovereignty and unity
In its official statement, the Kingdom affirmed its strong hope that this comprehensive agreement will contribute to advancing peace, security, and stability in Syria, fulfilling the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people who have suffered the ravages of conflict for many years. The Ministry reiterated Riyadh's firm and unwavering support for all efforts aimed at preserving Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and preventing any attempts to partition the country or destabilize its internal security.
Context of the agreement and its strategic importance
This agreement comes at a sensitive time for the region, as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) control vast areas in northern and northeastern Syria, regions rich in natural resources and oil. The existence of two separate administrations has long hindered the Syrian state's economic and political recovery. The importance of integrating the institutions of the Autonomous Administration into state institutions lies in ending the administrative duplication, unifying efforts to combat terrorism, and securing borders, thereby enhancing the prospects for economic recovery and reconstruction.
Appreciating international and regional efforts
In a related context, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia commended the positive response from the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces to the diplomatic efforts led by the Kingdom, as well as the tireless efforts exerted by the United States to solidify the ceasefire and reach this consensus. This growing Saudi role reflects the Kingdom's strategy aimed at resolving regional conflicts and supporting Arab political solutions to Arab crises, a strategy clearly demonstrated since the resumption of diplomatic relations and Syria's return to its seat in the League of Arab States.
This agreement is seen as a potential cornerstone for ending years of armed conflict in those areas, paving the way for a broader and more inclusive national dialogue that guarantees the rights of all components of the Syrian people under the umbrella of a unified and sovereign state.
