Weather in Saudi Arabia: Low temperatures reach 1 degree Celsius in 6 cities

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia, in its daily weather report, revealed a noticeable difference in temperatures between different regions of the Kingdom, as some cities are experiencing a sharp drop in minimum temperatures to reach one degree Celsius, while other regions maintain relatively warm weather.

Details of temperatures and the coldest cities

The meteorological statement explained that the cold wave is directly affecting the northern and northeastern regions of the Kingdom. Forecasts indicate a low of 1 degree Celsius in six major cities: Hail, Tabuk, Sakaka, Qurayyat, Tarif, and Hafr al-Batin . This drop in temperature coincides with increased surface wind activity, which may exacerbate the feeling of cold in these areas.

In contrast, Mecca and Jeddah recorded the highest maximum temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius, reflecting the great climatic diversity that characterizes the Kingdom due to its vast geographical area.

The climatic context and diverse terrain of the Kingdom

Saudi Arabia boasts a unique geographical and climatic diversity. The northern regions are typically affected by cold air masses from the north, making them susceptible to frost and temperatures that sometimes drop below freezing during winter. Meanwhile, the western coastal areas, such as Jeddah, and the holy city of Mecca, maintain mild to warm temperatures due to the influence of the Red Sea and the Hijaz Mountains, which act as natural barriers.

This contrast imposes different lifestyles, with increased demand for heavy winter clothing and heating in the north and center (such as Riyadh, which recorded a low of 5 degrees), while life continues as normal in the warm coastal areas.

Accompanying weather phenomena and safety alerts

The National Center for Meteorology's report included not only temperature readings but also warnings of various weather phenomena. Forecasts indicated a chance of light rain in parts of Mecca, Asir (Abha), Al-Baha, Jazan, Taif, and Al-Qunfudhah. While this rain is important for replenishing groundwater and vegetation, caution is advised when driving in mountainous areas and on slopes.

The center also warned of reduced horizontal visibility due to dust and sandstorms in areas such as Hail, Dawadmi, and Wadi Al-Dawasir, which calls for caution for highway users and respiratory patients.
