Saudi Arabia weather forecast for Sunday: Rain, fog, and active winds

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued its daily weather forecast for Sunday, indicating continued weather fluctuations across various regions of the Kingdom. The report predicted light rain, dense fog, and active surface winds that could stir up dust and sand, urging caution.

Details of the expected weather conditions

According to the center's statement, there is a chance of light rain over parts of the western and southwestern highlands of the Kingdom, including the highlands of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha, and possibly extending to parts of the Makkah highlands. This rainfall is within the usual climatic pattern for these mountainous regions, which benefit from the moisture of the Red Sea.

The center also warned of fog formation during the night and early morning hours, which could significantly reduce horizontal visibility. The fog is expected to be concentrated over parts of the southwestern highlands, as well as the Al-Jawf and Eastern regions. Fog poses a significant challenge to drivers and requires cautious driving and reduced speed.

Meanwhile, the effects of active winds stirring up dust and sand, which reduce horizontal visibility, continue in parts of the Northern Borders, Hail, and Tabuk regions. This extends to the eastern parts of the Madinah and Makkah regions, potentially affecting air quality and requiring those with respiratory conditions to take necessary precautions.

Climate context and the importance of alerts

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is characterized by its diverse terrain and generally desert climate, but the transitional periods between seasons witness significant weather fluctuations. The western and southwestern highlands play a vital role in receiving greater amounts of rainfall compared to other desert regions, making them important agricultural and tourist areas. Warnings issued by the National Center for Meteorology are of paramount importance under these conditions, as they contribute to raising awareness among citizens and residents and help relevant authorities, such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, prepare for any emergency, especially regarding the risks of poor visibility or flash floods in valleys.

The situation in the Red and Arabian Seas

The report indicated that the Red Sea will experience northwesterly to northerly surface winds in its northern and central parts, and southeasterly to southwesterly winds in its southern part, with speeds ranging from 21 to 42 kilometers per hour, resulting in wave heights of one to two meters. In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be northwesterly to westerly at speeds ranging from 13 to 26 kilometers per hour, with wave heights of half a meter to one meter, resulting in generally calm sea conditions.
