Weather forecast for Saudi Arabia today, Sunday: Rain, dust, and fog

The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily weather report for Saudi Arabia on Sunday, revealing unstable weather conditions including scattered rain, fog formation, and active winds stirring up dust and sand across wide areas of the Kingdom. This report is part of the ongoing monitoring of weather changes to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
Weather details and affected areas
According to the meteorological statement, the impact of active winds that reduce horizontal visibility due to dust and sandstorms is expected to continue. This impact is particularly concentrated in the eastern parts of the highlands in the western and southwestern regions. This condition also extends to parts of the Madinah, Hail, Qassim, and Riyadh , reaching as far as the northern parts of the Eastern Province.
Regarding the chances of rainfall, the report indicated that scattered showers, possibly accompanied by dense fog, are possible, necessitating caution while driving. These forecasts include parts of the aforementioned regions, as well as parts of the Al-Jawf and Northern Borders .
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
The coasts also experienced significant weather disturbances, with the forecasts as follows:
- Red Sea: Surface winds will shift from northwesterly to northerly in the northern and central parts, while remaining southeasterly to southerly in the southern part. Wind speeds will range from 15 to 30 km/h, potentially reaching 45 km/h with the formation of thunderstorms and rain, leading to wave heights of half a meter to two meters and occasionally rough sea conditions.
- Arabian Gulf: Northwesterly winds prevail at speeds of up to 45 km/h, with wave heights reaching up to two meters, and there is a chance of thunderstorms with rain, especially in the northern part.
The climatic context and diverse terrain of the Kingdom
Saudi Arabia is characterized by its vast geographical area and diverse topography, making it susceptible to multiple climatic patterns simultaneously. While coastal regions may experience high humidity and rainfall, the interior and central regions may suffer from dust storms and surface winds. This climatic diversity reflects the Kingdom's varied geography, which stretches from coastal areas to vast deserts and mountainous highlands, making monitoring weather forecasts essential for planning daily activities.
The importance of warnings and their impact on public safety
The National Center for Meteorology's bulletins are of paramount importance at both the local and regional levels, as the accuracy of their forecasts contributes to raising the level of preparedness among road safety and civil defense authorities. These weather fluctuations, particularly dust and fog, directly affect traffic on highways connecting the governorates, requiring drivers to adhere to speed limits and maintain safe distances. Furthermore, marine alerts are crucial for the fishing and maritime navigation sectors in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf to ensure the safety of those at sea.
