Saudi Arabia's weather today, Sunday: Rain, dust, fog, and weather warnings

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia revealed details of weather conditions for Sunday, as the concerned authorities issued important alerts to citizens and residents regarding weather fluctuations that include rainfall, surface wind activity that stirs up dust, in addition to reduced horizontal visibility due to fog in several regions.

Weather details and affected areas

According to the meteorological statement, weather maps indicate continued chances of light rain in scattered areas of the highlands in the western and southwestern regions of the Kingdom. This coincides with a noticeable increase in wind activity that may stir up dust and sand, necessitating caution while driving on highways and open roads.

Areas affected by strong winds and dust include:

  • Northern borders and Al-Jawf.
  • Tabuk and Hail region.
  • AL Madinah AL Munawwarah.
  • The western parts of the Riyadh region.
  • The eastern parts of the Makkah, Al-Baha, and Asir regions.

Warnings of fog and reduced visibility

The center also warned of the possibility of dense fog forming during the night and early morning hours, leading to reduced horizontal visibility. This phenomenon is expected to affect parts of the aforementioned regions and extend to include parts of the Eastern Province and the Jazan region, requiring drivers to exercise extreme caution.

State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Regarding maritime navigation, the report described wave and wind patterns as follows:

  • The Red Sea: It is experiencing northwesterly to northerly winds in the northern and central parts, and southeasterly winds that turn to southerly in the southern part. Wind speeds range between 15 and 30 km/h, with wave heights reaching one and a half meters.
  • Arabian Gulf: Northwesterly winds prevail at a similar speed (15-30 km/h), and the sea is slight to moderately rough.

The context of weather fluctuations and the importance of warnings

These forecasts come within the context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's significant climatic and geographical diversity. During these transitional periods, the country experiences variations in temperature and weather phenomena between its coastal, mountainous, and desert regions. These daily reports play a pivotal role in enhancing public safety, as early warnings assist service and traffic authorities in managing roads and enable citizens to plan their daily journeys and avoid areas that may experience severe weather phenomena such as dust storms, which often affect those with respiratory conditions, or fog, a major cause of traffic accidents during the early morning hours.
