Saudi Arabia weather today: Dust and a drop in temperature in 12 regions

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued its daily weather report for Sunday, indicating continued weather fluctuations across most of the Kingdom. The report included important warnings for citizens and residents about a noticeable drop in temperatures, accompanied by strong winds that could reduce horizontal visibility in several key areas.

In detail, the center explained that the impact of active winds stirring up dust and sand continues, significantly reducing horizontal visibility across large parts of the Eastern Province, as well as the Riyadh and Qassim regions. This impact also extends to the eastern parts of the Madinah and Makkah regions, urging drivers to exercise caution while driving on highways and open roads in those areas.

Lower temperatures and affected areas

Meanwhile, the northern regions of the Kingdom are experiencing a change in air masses, with temperatures dropping in Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, and Hail, extending to parts of the Tabuk region. This decrease is part of the typical climatic patterns during this transitional period, as the Kingdom is affected by the passage of low-pressure systems that contribute to cooling the atmosphere in the north.

Opportunities for fog formation and mountainous areas

The report also noted the weather conditions over the highlands, indicating a continued chance of dense fog during the early morning and late night hours in parts of the highlands of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions. Fog is a weather phenomenon that requires extra caution due to its direct impact on visibility, particularly on rugged mountain roads.

State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Regarding the marine conditions, the report detailed the movement of waves and winds as follows:

  • Red Sea: Northwesterly to northerly surface winds prevail at speeds ranging between 16-36 km/h over the northern and central parts, while they are southeasterly to southerly over the southern part at speeds reaching 45 km/h towards the Bab al-Mandab Strait, with wave heights reaching up to two meters in some areas.
  • The Arabian Gulf: It is experiencing winds of variable direction that gradually change, from southeasterly to northeasterly, then turn to northwesterly at noon with a speed of up to 45 km/h on the northern and central parts, making the sea state moderate to occasionally rough.

These forecasts reflect the great geographical and climatic diversity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where dust storms in the central and eastern regions coincide with a drop in temperature in the north and fog formation in the south, highlighting the importance of following daily weather bulletins to ensure public safety.
