Today's weather in Saudi Arabia (Saturday): Rain, fog, and active winds

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia revealed details of weather conditions for today, Saturday, as forecasts indicate a state of atmospheric instability affecting several regions, ranging from rainfall, fog formation, and surface wind activity that stirs up dust and sand.

Weather details and affected areas

The center explained in its daily report that the chance of scattered rain, which may be thundery at times, remains, particularly concentrated in the western and southwestern parts of the Kingdom. This coincides with a high probability of dense fog forming during the night and early morning hours, which may reduce horizontal visibility in parts of those areas. Therefore, drivers on highways should exercise caution.

In a related development, the meteorological department warned of the impact of active winds that will stir up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility. This impact is expected to affect large parts of the Hail and Madinah regions, as well as the western parts of the Riyadh region, extending to the eastern parts of the Makkah and Asir regions.

State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Regarding the marine conditions, the center provided a detailed breakdown of wave and wind movements:

Red Sea

  • Surface winds: They will be northwesterly to northerly on the northern and central parts at a speed of 20-40 km/h, while they will turn southeasterly and southerly on the southern part at a speed of 10-30 km/h, and gusts may reach 50 km/h.
  • Cloud conditions: Rainy thunderstorms are expected over the central and southern parts.
  • Wave height: ranging from one to two meters, and may reach two and a half meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms.
  • Sea conditions: Described as light to moderate waves, becoming rough in the central and southern parts.

Arabian Gulf

  • Surface winds: Northwesterly at a steady speed ranging between 20-40 km/h.
  • Wave height: from one meter to two meters.
  • Sea state: Light to moderate waves.

The importance of following weather forecasts and the impact of seasonal fluctuations

These reports are of paramount importance given the nature of Saudi Arabia's climate, where the country experiences rapid weather fluctuations at this time of year due to the interaction of air masses. The Kingdom's diverse geography, from the Sarawat Mountains in the southwest to the central plateaus and northern deserts, plays a pivotal role in the variations in weather conditions from one region to another.

The National Center of Meteorology is the official body authorized to issue these alerts, relying on the latest monitoring and satellite technologies to ensure the accuracy of the information. These early warnings contribute to raising the level of public safety, especially for travelers between cities by land, fishermen, and those at sea, in addition to assisting relevant authorities such as Civil Defense and Traffic Police in taking the necessary measures to deal with any emergency that may result from heavy rainfall or poor visibility due to dust and fog.
