Saudi Arabia condemns Rapid Support Forces crimes and calls for the protection of civilians

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the ongoing crimes and violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, which have targeted unarmed civilians and vital infrastructure. This firm stance came in response to the recent attacks launched by these forces on villages and areas in the states of North and South Kordofan, as well as their direct targeting of a passenger bus and a hospital, resulting in the deaths of dozens of civilians, including women and children, in a tragic scene reflecting the extent of the suffering endured by the brotherly Sudanese people.
A blatant violation of international law and the Jeddah Declaration
The Kingdom affirmed in its statement that these attacks constitute a flagrant violation of all humanitarian norms and international laws, stressing that targeting aid convoys and healthcare facilities is a crime that cannot be justified under any pretext. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the necessity of adhering to the outcomes of the “Jeddah Declaration,” signed on May 11, 2023, which clearly stipulates the commitment to protecting civilians in Sudan and ensuring safe passage for humanitarian aid. This reminder comes at a critical time as the humanitarian crisis worsens, with the targeting of aid convoys exacerbating the already dire living conditions and threatening the lives of millions with famine and medicine shortages.
The Kingdom's firm stance towards the unity of Sudan
In a related context, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reiterated its firm stance calling for the preservation of Sudan's unity, security, stability, and territorial integrity. Riyadh affirmed its full support for the legitimate institutions in the country, categorically rejecting all forms of foreign interference that contribute to fueling the conflict. The Ministry pointed to the danger of the continued flow of illicit weapons and the entry of mercenaries and foreign fighters into Sudanese territory, considering these practices, despite claims by some parties of supporting a political solution, to be the primary factor prolonging the war and exacerbating the suffering of the Sudanese people.
A call to the international community to assume responsibility
The Kingdom concluded its statement by demanding that the Rapid Support Forces immediately cease these violations and act with moral and humanitarian responsibility. It also called on the international community to intensify efforts to press for a ceasefire and ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, emphasizing that a political solution is the only way to end this crisis and restore stability to Sudan.
