A "Safer Lak" campaign in Al-Nu'airiyah: SAR imposes fines of up to 500,000 riyals

Saudi Railways (SAR) announced today, Thursday, the launch of the second phase of its national awareness campaign, "Safer for You," in Al-Nairiyah Governorate. This strategic step aims to enhance public safety standards and protect lives and property along the railway network. The three-day field tour targets raising awareness among all segments of society, particularly picnickers and livestock owners in open areas, about the dangers of crossing railway tracks without authorization.
Deterrent penalties to protect lives
In its efforts to enforce order and reduce accidents, SAR emphasized the deterrent legal aspect, clarifying that trespassing on railway property or crossing at undesignated areas is a serious violation. Penalties stipulated in the regulations include a fine of up to 500,000 Saudi Riyals , imprisonment for up to two years, or both, and confiscation of the vehicle used in the violation, all to ensure full compliance with regulations and to safeguard everyone's safety.
The strategic importance of the railway network
This campaign is of particular importance in Al-Nairiyah Governorate, which lies within the route of the North Train, one of the Kingdom's most vital economic and logistical arteries. These field operations aim to ensure the uninterrupted flow of supply chains and passenger traffic, as any encroachment on the railway not only threatens individual lives but could also cause serious damage to the national economy and disrupt transportation linking the north of the Kingdom with its central and eastern regions.
Vision 2030 and Quality of Life
SAR’s efforts are inseparable from the broader context of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 , specifically the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which prioritizes transportation safety. The “Safer for You” initiative directly contributes to achieving the Quality of Life Program’s objectives by reducing accident rates and providing a safe and reliable transportation environment. Field teams are currently engaging directly with local residents in Al-Nairiyah to emphasize that railways are not merely infrastructure, but a vital lifeline requiring community awareness for their protection.
Sustaining security awareness
It is worth noting that the “Safer for You” campaign is not a one-off event, but rather part of a sustainable security and awareness system implemented periodically by Saudi Railways. Previous campaigns have succeeded in significantly reducing the rate of violations, reflecting the success of the strategy that combines soft awareness with firm legal deterrence to ensure an accident-free environment on all railways in the Kingdom.
