In a move reflecting the rapid qualitative development of non-profit sector services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Al-Firdaws Association for Honoring the Deceased in Qatif Governorate, in a fruitful strategic partnership with the Al-Safa Charitable Society, has begun implementing a comprehensive development plan for the Safwa Cemetery. This ambitious project comes in response to the urgent need to modernize the infrastructure of the service facilities, ensuring the preservation of the dignity of the deceased and facilitating funeral and burial procedures according to the highest organizational and technical standards.
Keeping pace with the Kingdom's vision and developing the third sector
This project cannot be viewed in isolation from the comprehensive development drive underway in the Kingdom. The development of the Safwa cemetery aligns perfectly with the objectives of Vision 2030, which has given significant attention to the third (non-profit) sector, encouraging its transformation from traditional to institutional and well-governed practices. This initiative serves as a model for implementing the concepts of "quality of life," even in service facilities of a religious and social nature, reflecting administrative maturity and a genuine desire to provide services befitting citizens and residents.

The project carries profound social and cultural dimensions that extend beyond its construction aspect. In light of the urban expansion and increasing population density in Qatif Governorate, the urgent need has arisen to transform cemetery management into a fully integrated digital system. This transformation aims to eliminate previous challenges related to haphazard burial practices and security logistical difficulties, directly reinforcing the concept of "honoring the dead," which Islamic law and Saudi society consider of paramount importance, regards it as a sacred religious and social duty.
Advanced digital security system
Regarding the technical aspects of the project, the association paid close attention to security and safety, completing the installation of a comprehensive digital surveillance network that utilizes the latest technologies. This system consists of 12 modern, high-definition cameras, strategically positioned to cover all areas of the cemetery and its vital facilities. These cameras operate around the clock to ensure real-time monitoring, effectively contributing to the protection of public property, monitoring behavior, and preventing any violations that might infringe upon the sanctity of the site, thus providing a safe and secure environment.
Smart solutions for traffic management and expanding capacity
To alleviate the traffic congestion that plagued large funerals and caused distress to mourners, the development plan included the activation of smart electronic barriers at the main gate, in addition to the installation of a new "tow gate." These engineering measures aim to efficiently regulate the entry and exit of funeral vehicles and mourners, thus contributing to a more peaceful, dignified, and tranquil atmosphere during the funeral procession.
Regarding burial infrastructure, the Al-Firdous Association implemented a vital project to expand the burial grounds. This proactive step aims to increase the cemetery's capacity and meet future needs for years to come, while ensuring the systematic and organized use of internal spaces to prevent waste.

For his part, Hafez Al-Faraj, Chairman of the Al-Firdous Association, affirmed that this achievement represents a living example of social solidarity and successful partnership among non-profit sector institutions. Al-Faraj pointed out that the direct financial support from the residents of Safwa, and the close cooperation with the Al-Safa Association, were the cornerstones for transforming these ambitious plans into tangible reality. He commended the community's high level of civic awareness and their keenness to support projects honoring the deceased, which strengthens national unity and the social fabric of the region.
