New royal decrees: Rakan bin Salman appointed and ministerial changes made

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, issued a number of royal decrees that included appointments and dismissals in senior leadership positions, including the emirates of regions, ministries, the judicial system, and the Shura Council, as part of the ongoing commitment to injecting new blood and developing government work in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Royal decrees have been issued appointing His Royal Highness Prince Rakan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as Governor of Diriyah, with the rank of Minister. This appointment reflects the great strategic and historical importance of Diriyah Governorate, as it is considered the "Jewel of the Kingdom" and the capital of the first Saudi state.

Diriyah is currently witnessing a tremendous developmental transformation through giant development projects aimed at making it one of the most important tourist, cultural and heritage destinations in the world, given its rich cultural heritage registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List, which makes the appointment of a young and capable leadership at the top of its administrative pyramid a pivotal step to keep pace with this qualitative shift.

Changes in the emirates of the regions to promote development

The royal decrees included strengthening leadership in the regions, with His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nahar bin Saud Al Saud Deputy Governor of the Madinah Region with the rank of Minister, after being relieved of his position as Governor of Taif. Madinah holds a special religious significance and Islamic status that necessitates continuous efforts to serve its visitors and residents.

The decisions also included the appointment of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as Deputy Governor of the Northern Borders Region, and the appointment of His Royal Highness Prince Fahd bin Saad bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Saud as Deputy Governor of the Al-Baha Region, following his dismissal from his position as Governor of Diriyah. These appointments aim to enhance regional development and improve administrative performance across the Kingdom.

Restructuring in the Ministry of Investment and the Public Prosecution

On the economic and ministerial front, royal decrees relieved His Excellency Engineer Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih of his position as Minister of Investment and appointed him Minister of State and a member of the Council of Ministers. Mr. Fahd bin Abduljalil bin Ali Al-Saif Minister of Investment. The Ministry of Investment is a key pillar in attracting foreign capital and stimulating the local investment environment.

In the judicial system, a royal decree was issued relieving His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Muajab of his position as Attorney General, and appointing His Excellency Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed bin Nasser Al-Yousef as Attorney General with the rank of Minister, after relieving him of his position as head of the Board of Grievances, which indicates the continuation of the process of developing the judicial facility and strengthening the rule of law.

New advisory appointments and memberships

The new package of royal decrees included several important advisory appointments. Her Royal Highness Princess Haifa bint Mohammed bin Saud Al Saud was relieved of her position as Deputy Minister of Tourism and appointed as an advisor to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers with the rank of Minister. His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Bandar bin Abdullah Al-Mishari Al Saud was also appointed as an advisor to the Minister of Interior with the rank of Minister.

The orders concluded with the appointment of His Highness Prince Dr. Saad bin Saud bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as a member of the Shura Council, to strengthen the Council’s role in national decision-making.
