Riyadh weather today: Active winds, dust, and weather alerts

The National Center for Meteorology issued a detailed report on the expected weather conditions for Wednesday, warning residents of the Riyadh region and its surrounding governorates of unstable weather characterized by strong surface winds and dust storms. These warnings are part of the ongoing monitoring of weather conditions to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.

Weather details in Riyadh

The center explained that the weather phenomena, which include strong winds and blowing dust, will begin affecting the region from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM. The areas affected by the strong wind warning include: Riyadh, Diriyah, Zulfi, Ghat, Majmaah, Shaqra, Thadiq, Huraymila, Rumah, Dhurma, and Marat. Wind speeds in these areas are expected to reach between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour, leading to reduced horizontal visibility.

Regarding the southern and western areas of the Riyadh region, such as Al-Aflaj, As-Sulayyil, Wadi Ad-Dawasir, Ad-Dawadmi, Ar-Rayn, Al-Quway’iyah, Afif, Al-Hariq, Al-Kharj, Ad-Dilam, Al-Muzahmiyah, and Hawtat Bani Tamim, a special warning about dust storms was issued, as horizontal visibility is expected to decrease to between 3 and 5 kilometers.

Climate context and weather effects

These weather fluctuations are part of the climatic characteristics of Saudi Arabia, especially during the transitional periods between seasons, when surface winds stir up dust due to temperature and atmospheric pressure differences. These warnings are particularly important given the region's open, desert geography, which makes highways connecting provinces susceptible to a sharp decrease in visibility, necessitating caution from drivers.

Rain forecast and other regions of the Kingdom

On another note, the National Center for Meteorology's forecasts were not limited to dust and wind; they also indicated continued chances of thunderstorms accompanied by hail in the southern and western highlands. This weather pattern includes parts of the Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan regions, with the possibility of fog forming during the night and early morning hours, which could affect traffic in mountainous areas.

The effects of the active dust-raising winds also extend to parts of the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, Eastern Province, and Madinah regions, reaching as far south as Tabuk. The center urges everyone to follow daily reports and adhere to the instructions of the relevant authorities to ensure public safety.
