Riyadh Municipality discusses services for northern neighborhoods with residents to enhance quality of life

In a move reflecting its commitment to strengthening direct communication with residents and activating community partnerships, the Riyadh Municipality, represented by its Northern Sector, organized an open community meeting with a number of residents from neighborhoods in the northern part of the capital. The meeting was held at the “My City” office in the Al-Aqiq district, and was attended by Engineer Mohammed Al-Rabeeah, CEO of the Northern Sector, along with several sector leaders and office directors. The aim was to listen to residents' opinions and discuss their needs and aspirations for improving their quality of life.
Background and context of the meeting: Rapid growth and an ambitious vision
This meeting comes amidst the rapid urban and population growth witnessed in Riyadh, particularly in its northern districts, which have become a major residential and business hub. This expansion presents new challenges and opportunities related to providing integrated infrastructure and high-quality municipal services. This initiative falls within a broader framework aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes improving the quality of life for citizens and residents. Vision programs, such as the Quality of Life Program, emphasize the importance of developing Saudi cities to be more vibrant and sustainable, something that cannot be achieved without engaging residents as key partners in the development process.
Topics of discussion and the importance of community participation
The meeting addressed a wide range of topics relevant to residents' daily lives, providing an open forum for dialogue and listening to their feedback and suggestions on municipal services. Discussions covered topics such as road and sidewalk maintenance, the development of parks and public facilities, improving sanitation and waste management systems, and challenges related to urban planning and addressing visual pollution. Organizing such meetings represents a shift in the relationship between service providers and beneficiaries, moving from a one-way relationship to an interactive dialogue that ensures projects and services meet the actual needs of residents, thereby contributing to increased satisfaction and a stronger sense of community.
Expected impact: From local to global
At the local level, this meeting is expected to yield tangible results, including the swift addressing of feedback received and the integration of residents' suggestions into future development plans for northern Riyadh neighborhoods. At the national level, this practice reinforces a modern urban management model based on transparency and participation, setting an example for other municipalities in the Kingdom to follow. Internationally, these efforts contribute to solidifying Riyadh's position as a modern, global city that not only focuses on mega-projects but also attends to the details of its residents' daily lives, enhancing its appeal as a destination to live, work, and invest, and supporting its ambition to be among the world's best cities in terms of quality of life.
