The contract for the expansion of the Red Line of the Riyadh Metro to serve the Diriyah Gate has been awarded

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced a new strategic step within the public transport project in the capital, as the "Red Line" extension project for the Riyadh Metro network was awarded, which includes adding a distance of 8.4 kilometers and five new stations, in a step aimed at enhancing connectivity between vital and historical areas in the city.

The project to design, implement and complete the new expansion of the Red Line (King Abdullah Road axis) extends from King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate Development Project, thus covering a vital geographical area serving thousands of residents and visitors, and includes the construction of 5 new stations equipped with the latest global technologies to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers.

King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project: A qualitative leap for the capital

This announcement comes as a continuation of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project in Riyadh (metro and buses), one of the largest infrastructure and transportation projects currently underway in the world. The project aims to transform the lifestyle in the Saudi capital by providing a modern, integrated transportation network that facilitates movement for residents and visitors, reduces excessive reliance on private cars, and positively impacts traffic flow.

Diriyah Gate: A global destination with modern connectivity

This expansion is of exceptional importance given its ultimate destination: Diriyah Gate. Diriyah is not merely a residential area; it is a historical jewel of the Kingdom, the cradle of the first Saudi state, and home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed At-Turaif district. The Diriyah Gate development project is one of the Public Investment Fund's mega-projects under the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to transform the region into a global tourist and cultural destination. Therefore, connecting it to the metro network is essential for facilitating easy and convenient access for tourists and visitors.

Economic and environmental impact and quality of life

This expansion is expected to have far-reaching positive impacts that extend beyond mere transportation. The project will contribute to the economic development of the areas surrounding the new stations, increasing their real estate and investment value. Furthermore, the project aligns with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program, one of the Vision 2030 programs, by reducing carbon emissions from vehicle exhaust, protecting the environment, and saving time and effort for citizens and residents, thus making Riyadh a more sustainable and livable city by global standards.
