The Governor of Riyadh directs the submission of urgent reports on the Riyadh rains and the damage committees

As part of his ongoing monitoring of operations and concern for the well-being of citizens and residents, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh Region, directed all relevant authorities in the region to promptly submit detailed and urgent reports on the impact of the recent rainfall in Riyadh and the region's governorates. This directive aims to ensure the integrity of infrastructure and a swift response to any emergencies that may arise from weather fluctuations.

In his directives, His Highness stressed the need for the immediate activation of damage assessment committees and the increased deployment of emergency and maintenance teams across various locations, particularly critical areas prone to water accumulation. He also emphasized the importance of promptly addressing the effects of the rainfall and mobilizing all available human and logistical resources to respond to emergencies, ensuring smooth traffic flow and the highest safety standards for all.

Climate context and integrated efforts

These directives coincide with the active weather conditions affecting several regions of the Kingdom, with reports from the National Center for Meteorology indicating continued chances of thunderstorms of varying intensity. These official actions are of paramount importance in the context of crisis and natural disaster management, reflecting the leadership's commitment to enhancing the efficiency of government response and the integration of roles among various sectors, such as Civil Defense, the Municipality, and the Ministry of Transport, to ensure the continuation of daily life with minimal disruption.

Strategically, rapid response to rainfall events is part of the Quality of Life objectives, one of the programs under the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which focuses on improving the efficiency of municipal services and infrastructure. Riyadh, as the capital and economic hub, serves as a model for implementing seasonal emergency plans to address the challenges of managing flash floods and heavy rainfall that may occur during the transitional and winter seasons.

Civil Defense warnings and weather forecasts

In a related context, the General Directorate of Civil Defense reiterated its calls for citizens and residents to exercise caution and fully adhere to safety guidelines. The Directorate emphasized the importance of staying away from valleys and flood channels, and not venturing into flooded areas, especially given the ongoing warnings about the rainy weather affecting parts of Riyadh, Hail, and Qassim.

For its part, the National Center for Meteorology, in its weather report, predicted continued thunderstorms accompanied by active winds, necessitating continuous monitoring of weather bulletins through official channels. This integration between administrative directives from the region's governorate and technical warnings from the Meteorology and Civil Defense underscores the existence of a unified operational system aimed, first and foremost, at protecting lives and property.
