The Religious Affairs Department is holding a course for memorizing the Sunnah and texts at the Grand Mosque

The General Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, represented by the Agency for Scientific and Guidance Affairs, announced the launch of a specialized academic course entitled "Memorizing the Prophetic Sunnah and Scholarly Texts." This unique initiative is part of a series of winter break programs and aims to enhance religious awareness, instill a deep appreciation for the purified Prophetic Sunnah, and disseminate sound scholarly texts among students of Islamic knowledge and visitors to the Grand Mosque.

The Presidency clarified the schedule for the course, which is set to begin on Friday, 20 Rajab 1447 AH, and continue until Friday, 27 Rajab 1447 AH. The King Fahd Expansion of the Grand Mosque has been designated to host the course sessions, which will be held in two daily sessions: a morning session from after Fajr prayer until 10:00 AM, and an evening session from after Asr prayer until Isha prayer.

Course admission requirements and pathways

The agency established strict admission criteria to ensure seriousness and maximum benefit, as the course was divided into several levels based on memorization:

  • Advanced level: It is required to memorize the entire Holy Quran to participate in the “Combining the Two Sahihs” program.
  • Intermediate level: Memorizing half of the Holy Quran is required to participate in the “Bulugh Al Maram” and “Kifayat Al Mustaqni’” programs.
  • Foundational level: It is required to memorize five parts of the Holy Quran to participate in explaining “Umdat al-Ahkam” and “Kitab al-Tawhid”.

The Presidency emphasized that the course is intensive, requiring the participant's full commitment, and is supervised by a distinguished faculty. Valuable prizes and incentives will be awarded to outstanding participants, and accredited certificates of completion will be granted upon program conclusion. Interested individuals (men only) are invited to register via the designated online link.

The Grand Mosque: A beacon of knowledge throughout history

This course is an extension of the historical and cultural role of the Grand Mosque, which was not merely a place of worship, but also a major Islamic university that has produced great scholars throughout the ages. From the earliest centuries, the arcades of the Grand Mosque in Mecca were renowned for their scholarly circles, where students would gather around scholars near the pillars to learn Hadith, Tafsir (Quranic exegesis), and Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence). The General Presidency for Religious Affairs is reviving this great legacy by organizing such structured courses that connect the present with the authenticity of the past and restore the Grand Mosque's scholarly prominence.

Strategic importance and strengthening the message of the Two Holy Mosques

This event is of paramount importance within the context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts to serve the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. Beyond the physical architecture and massive expansions, the wise leadership places great emphasis on the spiritual dimension, represented by the dissemination of moderate and balanced Islamic knowledge. These programs align with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to enrich the religious and cultural experience of pilgrims, providing them with the opportunity to invest their time in the blessed city of Mecca in acquiring beneficial knowledge. This reflects the Kingdom's global mission of spreading the tolerant values of Islam and preserving the noble Prophetic heritage.
