Mecca records the highest rainfall in Saudi Arabia in 24 hours

Large areas of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia witnessed weather fluctuations and varying levels of rainfall during the past twenty-four hours, as the daily report issued by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture revealed the monitoring of rainfall amounts in 9 different administrative regions, reflecting a state of atmospheric instability that characterizes this period of the year, which promises a good agricultural and pastoral season.

Mecca records the highest rates

According to the Ministry's Hydrological and Climatic Monitoring Network, the Makkah region received the most rainfall, with the Radwan monitoring station in Al-Muwayh Governorate recording the highest amount at 9.8 mm. This rainfall was part of a wave that included 50 monitoring stations distributed across the following regions: Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, Qassim, the Eastern Province, Tabuk, Hail, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders.

Rainfall details in Riyadh and Qassim

The detailed report indicated that the Riyadh region received a good share of rainfall, with Al-Zulfi (Al-Alqa) recording 7.0 mm, followed by Al-Majma'ah with 5.2 mm, and then Dawadmi Airport with 4.8 mm. In the Qassim region, the Unaizah station recorded 6.5 mm, Al-Muthnib 6.0 mm, while the Qubbah station in Al-Asyah recorded 5.6 mm. The Madinah region recorded relatively lower amounts, with 0.8 mm recorded at the Al-Faqrah station.

Rain in the eastern and northern regions

In the Eastern Province, data showed rainfall at the Khafji monitoring station (8.5 mm), Hafr Al-Batin (8.4 mm), and the Hafr Al-Batin Air Base station (5.2 mm). Moving north, the Northern Borders region recorded 6.4 mm at Tarif Airport and 6.1 mm in Al-Jarani, Tarif. The Al-Jawf region recorded 4.5 mm in Ain Al-Hawas, Al-Qurayyat, and 3.2 mm in Al-Hamad. In the Tabuk region, Ibrahim Al-Khalil Road recorded 4.0 mm, while the Hail region recorded 2.2 mm in Al-Wurud neighborhood, Al-Shanan.

The importance of water and environmental monitoring

These daily reports hold significant strategic importance that extends far beyond simply monitoring weather conditions. Saudi Arabia relies heavily on this data to manage its limited water resources. The advanced network of hydrological and climatological stations provides relevant authorities with accurate information that helps measure surface water levels, supports groundwater recharge plans, and plays a vital role in guiding farmers and livestock breeders to maximize the benefits of the rainy season.

These rains also play a pivotal role in enhancing natural vegetation cover, which is in line with the objectives of the “Green Saudi Arabia” initiative, which seeks to combat desertification and develop vegetation cover, as seasonal rains are the main artery of wildlife in desert areas, which contributes to improving the natural environment and reducing dust storms in the future.
