Millions of basic commodities were supplied to Mecca during the Hajj season

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce announced its exceptional efforts during this year's Hajj season, revealing impressive statistics regarding the availability of essential goods in Mecca and the holy sites. Since the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah, the total quantity of goods supplied to markets and retail outlets has exceeded 459 million items, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to providing the best possible services to pilgrims and meeting all their daily needs with ease and convenience.
These massive supplies included a wide range of essential products, most notably baked goods, bottled water, dairy products, juices, soft drinks, and ice blocks. This strategic move aimed to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for pilgrims, with over 60 million loaves of bread distributed to retail outlets, more than 220 million bottles of bottled water, over 164 million packages of dairy products and juices, and over 15 million ice blocks.
The historical context of the Kingdom's efforts in serving pilgrims
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on developing the services provided to pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah. For decades, crowd management and catering have been significant challenges, which the Saudi government has successfully transformed into a global model for managing crises and major seasons. Current catering plans are an extension of this long legacy of care and attention, with the integrated efforts of various governmental and private sectors to ensure market stability and food availability. This reflects the continuous development of the logistical infrastructure that serves millions of pilgrims within a limited geographical area and a short timeframe.
The economic and social impact of providing basic commodities in Mecca
The impact of providing essential goods in Mecca far beyond simply meeting the immediate needs of pilgrims; it encompasses broad economic and social dimensions. Locally, these massive operations stimulate commercial activity, support domestic industries, and create seasonal employment opportunities for young Saudis. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's success in securing food and resources for millions of pilgrims reinforces its position as a leading nation capable of efficiently managing the largest human gatherings, sending a reassuring message to the entire Muslim world about Saudi Arabia's ability to care for the guests of God according to the highest international standards.
Strict control to ensure quality and market stability
To ensure that these products arrive in high quality and at fair prices, the Ministry of Commerce indicated that the average daily supplies reached record numbers; more than 10 million loaves of bread, 33 million bottles of water, more than 28 million bottles of milk and juices, in addition to more than two million ice blocks daily.
The Ministry affirmed the continuation of intensive monitoring and oversight of all markets and retail outlets. These inspection tours aim to prevent any price manipulation, ensure the availability of goods, and verify the suitability of products for human consumption, thereby enhancing the readiness of services provided to pilgrims performing Hajj and guaranteeing their ability to perform their rituals in a safe and stable spiritual environment.
