The Attorney General affirms the strengthening of judicial independence and governance at the Jazan meeting
His Excellency the Attorney General, Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Muajab, chaired today the periodic meeting of the heads of regional public prosecution offices, in the presence of assistant public prosecutors and a number of senior officials, in the Jazan region. This meeting comes at an important time, reflecting the judiciary's commitment to direct communication with its branches in various regions of the Kingdom to ensure the smooth operation of work according to the highest standards of efficiency.
At the outset of the meeting, His Excellency emphasized the continuous support and attention given to the justice system by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman – may God protect them both. Al-Muajeb noted that this unlimited support has resulted in rapid development in the performance of the Public Prosecution and its operational indicators, thus strengthening its position and consolidating its complete judicial independence. This aligns with the historic transformations witnessed by the judicial system since the issuance of the Royal Decree separating the Public Prosecution (formerly the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution) and linking it directly to the King, thereby granting it complete independence and immunity that enhances the integrity of investigations and judgments.
His Excellency the Attorney General also addressed the Royal Decree establishing the Public Prosecution Council, explaining that this step represented a qualitative organizational shift that contributed to consolidating the legal framework for prosecutorial work and enhancing the effectiveness of institutional governance. Governance is a fundamental pillar of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, aiming to raise the level of transparency and accountability in government agencies and ensure the flexible and effective application of regulations in a way that serves the public interest.
In the context of fieldwork, His Excellency emphasized the importance of strengthening joint coordination with relevant government entities, stressing the need to solidify integrated efforts to achieve "expeditious justice." Expeditious justice is a strategic objective that seeks to reduce litigation periods and expedite case resolution without compromising the quality of judgments, which positively impacts social stability and enhances public confidence in the justice system.
During the meeting, His Excellency emphasized the importance of expediting cases and streamlining procedures for beneficiaries in accordance with applicable regulations. He directed the intensification of oversight and inspection tours of prison facilities and detention centers. He stressed the necessity of directly examining the conditions of detainees and prisoners and addressing their concerns immediately, in line with the Kingdom's commitment to protecting human rights and preserving the dignity of defendants and convicts, as stipulated by Islamic law and international and domestic regulations.
This meeting is of particular importance as it comes within the framework of reviewing performance results and annual achievement rates, discussing mechanisms for developing penal procedures, in addition to approving regulatory recommendations that contribute to enhancing the efficiency of parliamentary work at the level of all regions of the Kingdom, which supports the legal environment that is an attractive element for investment and a catalyst for sustainable development.
