The context of the award and its national importance
The Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman Award for Women's Excellence is the first annual award of its kind in the Kingdom, uniquely celebrating and highlighting the achievements of Saudi women. Established under the auspices of Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University, the award is named after Princess Noura, sister of the Kingdom's founder, King Abdulaziz – may God have mercy on him – and a symbol of wisdom and female leadership in the Kingdom's history. The award primarily aims to support women's meaningful participation in comprehensive and sustainable national development and to document their contributions across various scientific and professional fields.
Areas of competition and keeping pace with Vision 2030
The eighth edition of the award was distinguished by its focus on topics directly aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. The competition encompassed six main fields, ranging from theoretical to applied aspects: health sciences, humanities, social work, natural sciences, economic projects, and artistic endeavors. The award targets individuals, government entities, organizations, and scientific and cultural institutions, thus broadening its impact and encouraging both institutional and individual competition.
Quality and Innovation Indicators
In a statement, Dr. Rasha Al-Ghafees, Secretary General of the Award, explained that receiving over 500 submissions reflects the strength of the innovation and the quality of the submitted works. She noted that the participating works were distinguished by their focus on themes that promote national identity and present sustainable initiatives, in addition to original studies and publications that document national heritage and handicrafts. Al-Ghafees emphasized that the judging criteria will primarily focus on innovation, tangible impact, inspiration, and sustainability to ensure the selection of works that offer genuine added value to society.
