The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemns Iran's targeting of Turkey and Azerbaijan

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the hostile attacks targeting the sovereignty of two member states. Reports indicate an attempt to target the Republic of Turkey with a ballistic missile, as well as an attack on the Republic of Azerbaijan with two drones. This firm stance reflects the OIC's categorical rejection of any threat to the security and stability of Islamic countries. The organization expressed its deep concern regarding the targeting of civilian infrastructure and the endangerment of innocent lives, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international norms and conventions.
The firm stance of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and joint solidarity
In its official statement, the General Secretariat affirmed its full and unwavering solidarity with both Turkey and Azerbaijan in confronting these security challenges. The Organization stressed its support for both countries in all measures they take to protect their territories and safeguard their national security. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation for an immediate halt to such provocative actions, which only serve to fuel conflicts and destabilize a vital and strategic region, warning against the consequences of escalation that could drag the region into undesirable tensions.
Geopolitical dimensions and the impact of escalation on regional stability
This event is of particular importance given the regional weight of the countries involved. The close relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan, often described as "one nation, two states," means that any attack on one is considered an attack on the other, thus escalating regional tensions. The Caucasus region and its shared border with Iran are geopolitical hotspots, and any military escalation there, whether through ballistic missiles or drones, carries serious repercussions that could affect energy corridors and international trade routes, in addition to directly impacting civil peace in border areas.
Violation of the principles of good neighborliness and international law
From the perspective of international law, the UN Charter, and the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, targeting member states or threatening the use of force constitutes a violation of the principles of national sovereignty and the foundations of international relations based on good neighborliness and mutual respect. Such attacks not only undermine trust between neighboring states but also hinder efforts toward development and joint economic cooperation. Therefore, the international community and regional organizations are called upon to play a more effective role in curbing these actions and ensuring their non-recurrence, in order to maintain international peace and security.
