National Water Company: 5,000 riyals for sewage connection fees, installment plans available

In a recent official statement, the National Water Company clarified the details regarding the calculation of fees for water and wastewater connection services, emphasizing that these procedures are subject to precise regulatory standards that primarily depend on the property area and the pipe diameter. The company revealed that connection fees for residential properties start from 5,000 riyals, with flexible installment options available to facilitate payments for beneficiaries, in accordance with ministerial decrees regulating this vital sector.
Organizational context and the goals of Vision 2030
This regulatory step comes at a time when the water sector in Saudi Arabia is undergoing radical transformations in line with the goals of Vision 2030, which prioritizes water security and environmental sustainability. The National Water Company is working according to a national strategy aimed at expanding the coverage of wastewater services in all cities and governorates, ensuring a modern infrastructure that serves rapid urban development.
The company pointed out that the mechanism currently in place is not arbitrary, but rather a literal implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. (763) dated 11/30/1441 AH, which established the unified regulatory foundations for classifying real estate and calculating costs, thus ensuring transparency and fairness in providing the service to all citizens and residents.
Financial structure details for fees
In detailing the applicable fees, the company outlined the following points:
- Small plots of land: Residential properties with an area of 350 square meters or less, have a minimum financial compensation starting from 5,000 riyals.
- Large areas: Properties exceeding 350 square meters are subject to a precise calculation formula, where an additional tariff is imposed for each additional square meter, taking into account the maximum limits stipulated by law.
- Multiple Units: If there is more than one residential unit within the same property, an additional 1,000 riyals will be added for each additional unit, according to the approved service provision guide.
The importance of connecting to the sewage network and its environmental impact
The National Water Company emphasized that subscribing to water and wastewater services is not a luxury option, but a mandatory procedure for all properties located within the urban area served by the network. This obligation carries significant strategic and environmental dimensions; eliminating traditional septic tanks and connecting to the formal network contributes to protecting public health, preventing wastewater seepage into the ground that threatens groundwater, and eliminating visual pollution and unpleasant odors within residential neighborhoods. This directly contributes to improving the quality of life, one of the ambitious Vision 2030 programs.
Installment solutions and the company's executive role
The company concluded its statement by emphasizing its role as an implementing body committed to applying the Water and Wastewater Services Provision Guide without modification. Recognizing the financial circumstances of its beneficiaries, the company announced the activation of affordable installment plans for home connection costs, ensuring access to this essential service for every household without imposing a significant immediate financial burden on citizens, thus achieving a balance between the financial sustainability of projects and social responsibility.
