The General Directorate of Passports launches 4 new services via Absher... Learn about them

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to automate government procedures and enhance quality of life, the General Directorate of Passports, under the generous patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior, launched four new electronic services through the Ministry of Interior’s electronic services platform (Absher).
Details of new services via Absher
This new package of services comes to meet the needs of a wide segment of citizens and residents, and includes the following services:
- Resident Photo Update Service: This service allows beneficiaries to update their personal photos in residency records electronically without needing to visit branches.
- Dependent Record Cancellation Service: This service aims to organize dependent records electronically.
- Dependent separation service: This service allows for the automatic and easy separation of dependents from the head of household's record.
- Absher Travel Service (Salwa Port): This is a qualitative addition to facilitate travel procedures through land ports, specifically the Salwa border crossing.
National context: Vision 2030 and digital transformation
This launch cannot be viewed as an isolated event, but rather as an integral part of the digital transformation strategy led by the Ministry of Interior, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The Kingdom has made significant strides in global e-government indicators, with the "Absher" platform now considered a leading model in the Middle East for providing reliable and secure government services. This continuous expansion of services reflects the leadership's commitment to eliminating bureaucracy and transforming traditional paper-based transactions into smart digital procedures completed in mere seconds.
The importance and expected impact of the new services
These services have dimensions that go beyond mere procedural facilitation; they contribute directly to:
- Saving time and effort: Reducing the need to visit passport offices, which alleviates traffic congestion, reduces carbon emissions, and saves beneficiaries time.
- Enhancing operational efficiency: Enabling passport staff to focus on complex cases and developing security work, instead of being preoccupied with routine transactions that can be automated.
- Facilitating travel: The “Absher Travel” service at the Salwa border crossing contributes to accelerating the movement of people and goods between the Kingdom and the State of Qatar, which enhances trade and tourism exchange between the two brotherly countries.
Official statements
For his part, the Acting Director General of Passports, Major General Dr. Saleh Al-Murabba, affirmed that launching these services represents a continuation of ongoing development efforts. He pointed out that the primary objective is to provide smart solutions that ensure data accuracy and speed of processing, thereby increasing user satisfaction and enhancing the efficiency of services provided to citizens, residents, and visitors alike.
