In a move that represents a qualitative leap for the air transport sector in northern Saudi Arabia, the new Al-Jawf International Airport, affiliated with the “Second Airports Cluster”, has begun operating in full and receiving its first flights, announcing the transfer of all operational activities from the old airport to the new terminals equipped with the latest technologies and international standards.
A huge leap in capacity in line with Vision 2030
This mega-project is a cornerstone of the National Aviation Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to transform the Kingdom into a global logistics hub and bolster the tourism and economic sectors. With the opening of the new airport, the capacity of the Al-Jawf region will increase dramatically, with the new airport capable of handling 1.6 million passengers annually. This represents a growth rate exceeding 800% compared to the old airport's capacity of approximately 175,000 passengers per year, opening up vast opportunities for economic and tourism growth in the region.
A design that combines modernity and local heritage
The new Al-Jouf International Airport's departure lounge is designed to offer a unique travel experience, spanning a total area of 24,000 square meters. Its architectural design reflects the heritage of the Al-Jouf region, with modern touches ensuring efficiency and comfort. The surrounding green spaces, covering approximately 5,000 square meters, are adorned with olive trees, a hallmark of the region, making the airport a gateway reflecting the rich culture and natural beauty of Al-Jouf.
Integrated facilities and advanced services
The airport is equipped with integrated facilities to ensure smooth passenger flow and provide the best services, including:
- 16 “counter” platforms for completing travel procedures, including two platforms dedicated to self-service.
- 11 departure and arrival gates to facilitate the movement of aircraft and passengers.
- 5 double passport counters to reduce waiting time.
- Parking spaces for 648 vehicles.
- Various commercial spaces spanning 1,700 square meters.
The airport also pays special attention to the humanitarian aspect, as it contains sensory rooms dedicated to serving travelers with autism spectrum disorder, in addition to providing all the necessary facilities and services for people with disabilities, to ensure a comfortable and inclusive travel experience for all.
Strategic importance and economic impact
The opening of the new Al-Jawf International Airport will not only improve air transport services but will also serve as a major driver of development in the northern region. The airport is expected to attract further investment and revitalize tourism to Al-Jawf's numerous archaeological and historical sites, such as the Mard Castle and the Mosque of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab. It will also create direct and indirect job opportunities for the region's residents and strengthen Al-Jawf's position as a strategic northern gateway to the Kingdom, facilitating trade and passenger traffic both regionally and internationally.
