The Meteorology Department warns of active winds in Al-Baha and reduced visibility

The National Center for Meteorology issued an important alert today regarding the weather in the Al-Baha region, warning that the region and its governorates will be exposed to surface wind activity, which requires caution and vigilance from citizens, residents and highway users.
Weather details in Al-Baha
The meteorological department explained in its report that the weather conditions include the city of Al-Baha , in addition to a number of its affiliated governorates and centers, namely: Baljurashi, Al-Mandaq, Al-Aqiq, Bani Hassan, and Al-Qura, extending to the areas adjacent to these regions. The center indicated that these active winds will directly lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility , with estimated wind speeds ranging between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour.
The relevant authorities indicated that this weather condition will continue - God willing - until 6 pm today , which requires continuous monitoring of weather updates through official channels.
Geographical nature and the effect of wind
These warnings are particularly important given the geographical nature of the Al-Baha region, which lies within the Sarawat Mountains. Mountainous and elevated areas are typically more susceptible to the effects of strong winds, as the rugged terrain and steep slopes contribute to increased air current speeds and sudden changes in direction. Furthermore, reduced horizontal visibility in mountainous and foggy areas presents an additional challenge for drivers, especially on the region's winding roads and in its tunnels.
Safety and prevention guidelines
In light of these conditions, weather and traffic safety experts advise following a set of guidelines to ensure public safety:
- Take care while driving: especially on highways and open roads where the effect of crosswinds is stronger, and it is necessary to leave a sufficient safety distance between vehicles.
- Avoid exposed areas: It is advisable to stay away from standing near tall trees, huge billboards, or buildings under construction that may be affected by strong winds.
- Respiratory patients: Due to the possibility of dust and sand being stirred up by the active winds, those with asthma and chest allergies are advised to stay indoors as much as possible or use masks when going out.
The role of the National Center for Meteorology
This alert comes as part of the National Center for Meteorology's ongoing efforts to monitor weather conditions and protect lives and property through its early warning system. This system aims to provide accurate information to the public and relevant government agencies so they can take necessary precautions. Accurate weather forecasts are a fundamental component of the national safety system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, especially given the weather fluctuations that may affect different regions.
