The Nomo Autism Association launched the second edition of its comprehensive educational program under the slogan "Including Today... Empowering Tomorrow," which primarily aims to raise awareness about autism. This ambitious campaign targets reaching 300,000 beneficiaries during April, through the launch of five impactful initiatives that seek to strengthen community solidarity with individuals on the autism spectrum and empower them to be active and influential members of society.
The roots of global and local interest in autism spectrum disorder
April holds significant importance both locally and internationally, as April 2nd has been designated World Autism Awareness Day by the United Nations General Assembly since 2007. In Saudi Arabia, autism awareness efforts align with the goals of Vision 2030, which prioritizes quality of life programs and the inclusion of all segments of society. The efforts of the Nomo Association are an extension of this historical and national commitment. The association's executive management strives to highlight the daily challenges faced by individuals with autism through realistic simulations of their needs, combining educational initiatives with direct support for families.
Innovative initiatives to raise awareness about autism in the community
The events kicked off with the "Your Generosity is Abundant" initiative, which saw the participation of 15 organizations that donated a portion of their sales to support the association's programs. Simultaneously, interactive screens were launched at Dammam airports under the slogan "A World Without Borders" to display innovative messages to travelers. The association also announced that the Khobar Corniche will host a sensory room from April 9th to 11th as part of the "From Their World, Let's Feel" initiative, allowing visitors to experience an accurate simulation of the sensations of individuals with autism. The efforts extended beyond this, encompassing on-site consultations with the participation of 14 specialized organizations, alongside the deployment of "I Am Here" booths in shopping malls and hospitals to answer families' inquiries and distribute necessary educational materials.
Expected impact of empowerment and community integration programs
The importance of these events extends beyond simply disseminating information; they aim to create a tangible and profound impact on collective awareness. In this context, the association is preparing for an exceptional event on April 24th through the "Wave of Silence" initiative, where 500 volunteers will form the program's visual symbol. This powerful collective display embodies a profound message reflecting the significant challenges faced by individuals with autism in expressing their feelings and communicating with their surroundings. The anticipated impact of such initiatives extends locally and regionally, fostering a more accepting and understanding environment for neurological differences. In this regard, the association's Executive Director, Professor Jamila Al-Balharith, urged all members of society and its institutions to engage positively with these vital initiatives and actively participate in their programs. She emphasized that raising community awareness is the fundamental approach to empowering individuals with autism and effectively integrating them into a future characterized by inclusivity and shared empathy, which will positively contribute to the sustainable development of society as a whole.
