Ministry of Municipalities and Housing: Establishment of 294 parks and development of the urban landscape by 2025
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing continued its tireless efforts throughout 2025 to enhance and develop the urban landscape across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, achieving significant progress in increasing green spaces and improving quality of life. The Ministry's strategy resulted in the creation of 294 new parks and the implementation of 252 urban interventions, all aimed at humanizing cities and making them more livable and conducive to well-being.
Context of urban transformation and Vision 2030
These achievements are part of a broader context closely linked to the Quality of Life Program, one of the key programs of Saudi Vision 2030. After decades of urban expansion that focused primarily on concrete infrastructure, the Kingdom is undergoing a radical shift towards enhancing the human dimension of urban planning. These parks and urban interventions are a fundamental pillar for increasing per capita green space, a vital global indicator for measuring population well-being and urban sustainability.
Details of achievements and facility development
The ministry explained that its efforts were not limited to new construction, but also included a comprehensive plan to revitalize existing assets, with the rehabilitation of 132 existing parks already completed. This integration of new and improved developments directly contributes to enhancing the urban environment and providing green spaces for residents and visitors, thus promoting public health and social cohesion within residential neighborhoods.
Strategic planning and environmental sustainability
In order to regulate urban growth, the Ministry adopted three local plans and one regional plan, ensuring that urban expansion is guided by regulatory frameworks that prevent haphazard development and promote optimal land use. On the environmental front, the Ministry achieved a significant milestone by closing more than 100 illegal landfills, a crucial step in reducing visual and environmental pollution. Simultaneously, 17 afforestation offices were established within the Ministry and its affiliated municipalities to ensure the sustainability of vegetation cover and align with Saudi Arabia's Green Initiatives.
Expected impact locally and regionally
These rapid developments not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of cities but also have profound economic and social dimensions. Cities with sophisticated urban landscapes and attractive public spaces are better positioned to attract investment and tourism, in addition to their role in promoting the mental and physical well-being of residents. The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing affirms that these figures represent part of an ongoing effort to build smart, sustainable, and human-friendly cities, fulfilling the aspirations of the wise leadership to make Saudi cities among the best in the world to live in.
