Saudi Arabia weather today: Rain in Al-Jawf, fog in the Eastern Province, and urgent warnings

The National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued urgent and updated reports on the expected weather conditions, indicating significant weather fluctuations including varying rainfall and dense fog over large areas of the Kingdom, which calls for caution and vigilance by citizens, residents and highway users.
Details of the rainfall situation in the Al-Jawf region
In its latest alert, the National Center for Meteorology explained that the Al-Jawf region is experiencing unstable weather conditions, characterized by moderate to heavy rainfall. This weather pattern includes the city of Sakaka, as well as the governorates of Al-Qurayyat, Dumat Al-Jandal, and Tabuk. The report indicated that this rainfall will not only be brief but will also be accompanied by weather phenomena requiring attention, including:
- High-speed surface winds may stir up dust and sand before rainfall.
- Hail fell in some locations.
- Flash floods are occurring in valleys and ravines, necessitating staying away from flood channels and low-lying areas.
- Thunderstorms associated with cumulonimbus clouds.
- Lack of or severe reduction in horizontal visibility.
The center has determined that this weather condition will continue until 5:00 AM on Monday, calling on everyone to follow public safety guidelines.
Red alert: Dense fog blankets the eastern region
Concurrently with the rainy weather in the north, the National Center of Meteorology issued a "red alert" for the eastern region, warning of dense fog that could lead to near-zero horizontal visibility (less than one kilometer). This phenomenon is common in coastal and nearby areas during winter due to high humidity and the cooling of the ground surface.
The fog will begin at midnight and continue until 8:00 AM on Monday, directly impacting morning traffic and the commutes of employees and students to work and school. Affected areas include:
- Jubail, Khobar, and Dammam.
- Dhahran, Qatif, and Ras Tanura.
- Al-Ahsa, Abqaiq, and Al-Nairiyah.
- Al-Khafji and Al-Adeed.
The importance of adhering to safety instructions
These warnings are of paramount importance due to their direct impact on daily life and the safety of lives and property. Relevant authorities, including Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, consistently emphasize the need to reduce speed while driving, use fog lights, and maintain a safe following distance, especially in the Eastern Province, which experiences high traffic volumes and has highways connecting industrial and residential areas.
Residents of the Al-Jawf region are also advised to avoid open desert areas and valley bottoms during rainfall and flash floods, and to follow weather updates through official channels to ensure their safety.
