In a move reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to serving pilgrims, the first flight carrying beneficiaries of the Makkah Route Initiative from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The flight landed safely at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, having arrived via the initiative's dedicated terminal at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan. This arrival marks the official start of the Hajj season and the activation of the extensive facilities provided by the Kingdom to pilgrims.
Objectives of the Makkah Route Initiative and Facilitating the Hajj Journey
The Makkah Route Initiative primarily aims to provide high-quality services to pilgrims from participating countries. This is achieved by receiving pilgrims and completing all their procedures in their home countries with ease and convenience, starting with collecting their biometric data and issuing their Hajj visa electronically. The pilgrim then proceeds to passport control at the departure airport, after verifying that all necessary health requirements are met.
In addition, the facilities include baggage tagging and sorting according to transportation and accommodation arrangements in the Kingdom. Upon arrival, pilgrims proceed directly to designated buses that transport them to their accommodations in the Makkah and Madinah regions via dedicated routes, while partner agencies deliver their luggage to them without any hassle or waiting in the arrival halls.
The historical context and continuous development of serving the guests of God
These efforts fall under the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Guests of God Service Program, which aims to bring about a qualitative leap in the Hajj and Umrah experience. The initiative was first launched in 1438 AH (2017 CE) as part of the Kingdom's longstanding commitment to developing the Hajj system. Since its inception, the initiative has witnessed remarkable expansion to include several Islamic countries, achieving outstanding success in reducing pilgrims' waiting times at Saudi airports from several hours to just a few minutes. This strategic step has served more than 1,254,994 pilgrims since its beginning, reflecting the scale of the achievement and the continuous development of infrastructure and services.
Regional and international impact of Hajj facilities
The impact of these facilitations extends beyond the Kingdom's borders, leaving a profound positive mark at both the regional and international levels. By streamlining procedures in major Islamic countries like Pakistan, the Kingdom strengthens its diplomatic and Islamic ties and presents a leading global model for crowd management and the application of technology to serve humanity. This meticulous organization reflects the Kingdom's logistical and security capabilities and underscores its leadership in efficiently and effectively managing one of the world's largest annual gatherings.
Integrating national efforts to ensure the success of the initiative
It is worth noting that the Saudi Ministry of Interior is implementing this initiative for the eighth year, in close cooperation and institutional integration with several government entities. These entities include the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media, in addition to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), and the General Authority for Endowments. Implementation is also carried out in cooperation with the Guests of God Service Program, the General Directorate of Passports, and in integration with the digital partner (stc Group). This synergy between the various sectors ensures an exceptional and comfortable experience for Pakistani pilgrims and other pilgrims from countries covered by the service.
