The Holy Capital Municipality raises the readiness of roads and facilities for Hajj

The Holy Capital Municipality has completed all its field work to enhance the readiness of the road network and public facilities in Makkah and the Holy Sites, in preparation for the Hajj season of 1447 AH. These steps were taken through the implementation of comprehensive operation and maintenance programs aimed at improving infrastructure efficiency, enhancing the urban landscape, and providing the utmost comfort and safety for pilgrims during their rituals.

A historical legacy and ongoing efforts in serving the guests of God

Serving the pilgrims is a great honor and a historic responsibility that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undertaken for decades. In this context, government and service agencies work in close and continuous coordination throughout the year to develop services and expand the capacity of the Holy Sites. The Secretariat plays a pivotal role in this system, overseeing the preparation of infrastructure, the development of road networks, lighting, and stormwater drainage, ensuring the smooth flow of millions of pilgrims who come from all corners of the earth to perform this great pilgrimage.

Numbers and achievements reflect the readiness of the Holy Capital Municipality

The past period witnessed the implementation of a wide range of field rehabilitation and development works undertaken by the Secretariat. These works included paving more than 45,800 square meters of roads, installing 1,806 square meters of interlocking pavers, and maintaining 2,829 square meters of concrete surfaces. Field teams also focused on washing and cleaning tunnels covering an area exceeding 6,453 square meters to enhance the readiness of vital routes leading to the Grand Mosque and the Holy Sites.

As part of its efforts to improve public services, the municipality completed the maintenance of 1,940 streetlights and 72 public restrooms. The work was not limited to engineering alone, but also extended to environmental improvements and increasing green spaces. This included planting 13,500 square meters of natural grass, 1,740 trees, and 1,500 flowering seedlings, effectively contributing to enhancing the urban landscape and improving the quality of life in and around the Holy City of Mecca.

Regional and international impact and promising development projects

The significance of these preparations extends beyond the local level, impacting regionally and internationally, reflecting the Kingdom's exceptional organizational and logistical capabilities in managing massive crowds. The Secretariat's operational plans rely on a vast infrastructure network encompassing over 73.8 million square meters of roads in Mecca and approximately 4.6 million square meters in the Holy Sites, supported by 123 bridges in Mecca and 20 bridges in the Holy Sites, along with an integrated lighting system comprising 145,000 light poles and towers.

These ongoing development projects and the opening of new roads aim to alleviate traffic pressure on the main axes and facilitate the movement of pilgrims between the holy sites, thus ensuring a safe and easy Hajj journey that leaves a deep positive impact on the hearts of the guests of God when they return to their countries, confirming the Kingdom’s leadership in caring for and serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors.
