Saving the life of a patient suffering from a severe heart attack in Mecca

In a new medical achievement highlighting the efficiency of the healthcare system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a specialized medical team at the Al-Shara'i 7 Health Center, affiliated with the Makkah Health Cluster, successfully saved the life of a patient suffering from a severe heart attack and sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest. The patient, a Saudi citizen in his fifties, arrived at the health center in extremely critical condition, requiring immediate emergency intervention to save his life from imminent danger.
Details of the epic 40-minute rescue of a heart attack patient
The Makkah Health Cluster explained that the on-call medical team at the center, led by specialist Dr. Ammar bin Yassin, responded to the emergency case immediately upon its arrival at the emergency department. The team promptly began implementing the approved medical protocols for dealing with cardiac arrest cases, initiating intensive and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). These strenuous efforts continued for 40 continuous minutes without interruption, during which the patient was given emergency medications and intravenous fluids necessary to stimulate the heart muscle and restore vital signs, demonstrating the highest levels of professionalism and medical preparedness of the national staff.
Primary healthcare in Mecca: The first line of defense
This remarkable medical achievement highlights the significant progress being made in primary healthcare centers in Mecca and the Kingdom as a whole. Historically, critical cases such as acute heart attacks required immediate and rapid transfer to major hospitals, potentially endangering the patient's life due to the critical time factor. However, equipping primary healthcare centers with the latest medical technologies and training their staff to the highest standards has transformed them into the first line of defense, capable of handling emergency and critical cases with an efficiency comparable to specialized hospitals. This directly contributes to reducing mortality rates resulting from sudden heart attacks.
The integration of the medical system and its impact on the safety of pilgrims and citizens
After the medical team successfully restored the patient's pulse and initially stabilized his condition at the center, a swift and efficient transfer was arranged by ambulance to the emergency department of King Faisal Hospital in Mecca. He was then transferred to King Abdullah Medical City for further specialized care, where advanced tests revealed he had suffered an acute myocardial infarction requiring immediate catheterization.
This seamless and organized integration between the various health facilities of the Makkah Health Cluster reflects the significant positive impact of the health transformation programs in the Kingdom within the Saudi Vision 2030. The impact of this development is not limited to providing distinguished medical services to citizens and residents only, but extends to include millions of pilgrims and Umrah performers who come to Makkah throughout the year, thus consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a global model to be emulated in managing emergency healthcare and crowds.
