Makkah Health Cluster saves resident from heart attack in 103 minutes

The Makkah Health Cluster recorded a qualitative medical achievement that reflects the efficiency of the health system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the specialized medical teams were able to save the life of a 37-year-old resident who suffered an acute heart attack, in a record time of no more than 103 minutes from the moment he arrived at the emergency room until the completion of the surgical intervention.
Details of the urgent medical trip
The story began when the emergency department at Hira General Hospital received a Bangladeshi resident complaining of sudden and severe chest pain. Upon initial examination and diagnosis of a heart attack requiring immediate intervention, the "Emergency Care Pathway for Heart Attacks" system was activated. Thanks to the high level of coordination between the facilities within the cluster, the patient was immediately transferred to Al Noor Specialist Hospital, where the medical team was ready to receive him.
Due to prior preparation, routine procedures were bypassed and the patient was transferred directly to the cardiac catheterization unit within just 10 minutes of his arrival at the referral hospital, where doctors performed cardiac catheterization and implanted a stent to open the blocked artery and successfully restore blood flow to the heart muscle, which contributed to stabilizing his health condition.
Makkah Health Cluster Strategy and National Transformation
This achievement is not a fleeting event, but rather the fruit of the Kingdom's healthcare transformation program within the framework of Vision 2030. This transformation aims to restructure the healthcare sector to be more comprehensive and efficient, with the Makkah Health Cluster a pivotal role in implementing the modern healthcare model. This model focuses on enhancing prevention, facilitating access to services, and connecting peripheral hospitals to specialized centers through rapid and secure referral pathways, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care during critical times.
Regional leadership in emergency medicine and crowd management
These medical successes are particularly significant given the strategic geographical location of Mecca, which receives millions of pilgrims and Umrah performers annually. The ability of healthcare facilities to handle complex emergencies such as heart attacks with such speed and efficiency reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leading regional and international center for emergency and mass gathering medicine. This achievement underscores the Kingdom's commitment to serving both pilgrims and residents alike, providing a comprehensive healthcare system supported by cutting-edge technologies and highly qualified personnel.
