Second Makkah Associations Forum: Promoting Sustainability under the patronage of the Deputy Prince

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, Jeddah is preparing to host the “Second Forum of Associations of Makkah Region Governorates and Villages,” organized by the Charitable Villages Development Association (Tanmia). The event will commence on January 28th under the strategic theme “From Impact to Sustainability,” and will be attended by a wide range of leaders in charitable and development work.

A national context that supports the non-profit sector

This forum is being organized at a time when the non-profit sector in Saudi Arabia is undergoing radical transformations and rapid development, in line with the objectives of Vision 2030, which has given considerable attention to this sector, aiming to raise its contribution to the GDP to 5%. This forum is a practical step towards translating these national directions into action, as it seeks to shift charitable work from the traditional concept based on direct aid to one of sustainable development and creating a profound social impact that serves local communities in villages and governorates.

Modern tools for measuring impact

The forum primarily aims to bring about a qualitative shift in the institutional performance of NGOs by adopting an integrated system for measuring impact and enhancing its effectiveness. The event focuses on raising awareness among rural associations about the importance of aligning their programs with national development goals and empowering them to utilize modern global measurement tools. These tools include Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), the Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology, and the theory of change, ensuring that resources are directed towards the most beneficial and sustainable projects.

A strategic platform for unifying efforts

In a statement regarding the event, Engineer Mohammed Omar Al-Nahari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tanmia Association, affirmed that the second edition of the forum represents a continuation of the association's established approach to developing civil society work. He explained that the forum serves as a strategic platform aimed at unifying disparate efforts and enhancing the efficiency of associations in the Makkah region. Al-Nahari noted that the association prioritizes empowering community leaders and building institutional capacity, while focusing on strengthening partnerships with the governmental, private, and academic sectors to ensure financial and operational sustainability.

Development initiatives and exchange of expertise

The forum is expected to generate significant developmental momentum, with the participation of over 300 organizations and NGOs, and attracting more than 1,000 participants, including decision-makers and leaders in the non-profit sector. The forum aims to promote transparency and collaborative learning through a shared platform for exchanging experiences and formulating recommendations for adopting unified national frameworks. It will also witness the signing of at least 10 strategic cooperation agreements and the holding of specialized workshops with the participation of leading experts.

wide range of impact

The role of the Village Development Charitable Association (Tanmia) stands out as a cornerstone of this movement, with its services extending to 17 governorates and approximately 4,000 villages in the Makkah region. The association serves as an umbrella organization supporting more than 480 social associations and committees, benefiting over six million people. The forum will feature presentations of more than 10 success stories from village associations that have achieved tangible impact, in addition to an accompanying exhibition showcasing influential entities in the development process.
