Road projects in Madinah launched with a budget of 188 million riyals

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Madinah Region, affirmed that the launch of road projects in Madinah reflects the generous support and great attention given by the wise leadership to the development of all regions of the Kingdom. This came during his inauguration of 10 vital road projects in the region, at a total cost of 188 million riyals, with a length exceeding 498 kilometers. The inauguration ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nahar bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the region, His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, and a number of prominent leaders in the transport sector.

The strategic and historical importance of the transport network

Madinah holds an exceptional religious and historical significance, serving as the second pilgrimage destination for millions of Muslims visiting the Prophet's Mosque annually. For decades, the Saudi Arabian government has prioritized the region's infrastructure development, continuously improving transportation networks to accommodate the ever-increasing number of visitors and population growth. This new package of projects is a natural extension of the Kingdom's longstanding efforts to facilitate the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages and connect Madinah to other parts of the country via a modern and safe road network, further solidifying its position as a leading Islamic and cultural center.

Details of the vital projects launched

The inaugurated projects included the completion of a 10-kilometer section of the intersection of Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Road with King Khalid Road (Third Ring Road), at a cost of 54 million riyals. They also included connecting the Madinah-Yanbu Expressway to a 1-kilometer branch road leading to Al-Wasita village, at a cost of 7 million riyals, in addition to completing the remaining work on the Anbuwan/Al-Ghashiyah/Al-Mahajir Road.

To enhance road safety, projects were implemented to widen shoulders and repair damaged sections, including the 79-km Madinah-Al Mahd direct road (35 million riyals) and the 126-km Madinah-Tabuk dual carriageway (33 million riyals). Improvements also extended to the Madinah-Makkah Expressway, the Madinah-Qassim Expressway, the Madinah-Hail Road, and the Al-Ula-Hail Road, in addition to addressing other agricultural and secondary roads to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow.

The impact of road projects in Medina on overall development

The importance of road projects in Medina extends beyond simply improving infrastructure; it encompasses broad economic and social dimensions. Locally, these projects play a pivotal role in facilitating the daily commutes of citizens and residents, enhancing road safety, and improving the overall quality of life. Regionally, strengthening connectivity between Medina and neighboring provinces such as Mecca, Tabuk, Qassim, and Hail directly supports commercial, agricultural, and tourism activities, creating new investment and employment opportunities for the region's inhabitants.

At the international level, these development initiatives align with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to solidify the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub connecting three continents. Furthermore, facilitating access for pilgrims to the Prophet's Mosque from around the world reflects the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to providing the best possible services to the guests of God, a fundamental pillar in achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Commitment to the highest standards of quality and safety

For his part, His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics explained that these projects were implemented according to the highest safety and quality standards, and in accordance with the approved Saudi Road Code. He affirmed that this step will contribute to supporting the region's road network, which exceeds 7,600 kilometers in length. His Excellency emphasized that the transport system, represented by the General Authority for Roads, will continue its diligent efforts to upgrade the national road network, considering it one of the most important enablers supporting the comprehensive and sustainable development process in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
