City bus updates: Route 291 serves Al-Takhassusi and Al-Sina'iya districts

In a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the public transportation system and improving the quality of life for residents and visitors, the Madinah Bus Project Management announced the completion of significant upgrades to Route 291 in Madinah. These upgrades included the activation of two new, vital stops serving a wide range of users: the King Faisal Specialist Hospital stop and the Industrial City stop. This followed the complete completion of infrastructure development and preparation work to ensure smooth bus traffic flow.

Expanding the scope of service and connecting vital facilities

This measure is part of a comprehensive strategy to develop the public transportation network in Madinah. The new additions aim to facilitate access for patients, visitors, and medical staff to King Faisal Specialist Hospital, one of the most important medical institutions in the region. Simultaneously, connecting the route to the industrial city will support the logistics and industrial sectors by providing a safe and reliable means of transportation for workers, thus reducing reliance on private vehicles and alleviating traffic congestion during peak hours.

Context of developing public transport and keeping pace with the vision

This upgrade cannot be viewed in isolation from the comprehensive development drive underway in Saudi Arabia as part of Vision 2030, specifically the Quality of Life Program. The “City Buses” project, overseen by the Madinah Region Development Authority, is a pioneering model for modern urban transport projects. Recent years have witnessed significant advancements in this sector, with the network designed to connect the Prophet’s Mosque, Quba Mosque, historical sites, residential neighborhoods, and service facilities through an integrated network of modern, environmentally friendly buses.

Expected economic and social impact

The upgrade of Route 291 is expected to have a tangible positive impact at the local level. Socially, it will provide accessible transportation options for the elderly and people with disabilities to reach healthcare services. Economically, it will facilitate the movement of the workforce to industrial areas, thereby increasing the operational efficiency of facilities. Furthermore, expanding the use of public transportation will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment, a strategic objective that Madinah is striving to achieve in its pursuit of becoming a smart and sustainable city.

Commitment to international quality standards

Madinah Buses continues to implement its ambitious development plans to enhance the reliability of its journeys and apply the latest global operating standards. These plans include continuous performance monitoring, fleet modernization, and the use of smart technologies in scheduling and ticketing, thus solidifying public transportation as a practical and preferred option for daily commuting within Madinah, befitting its status as a global destination visited by millions annually.
