Lowest temperatures in Saudi Arabia today... Al-Qurayyat records 3 degrees Celsius

Various regions of Saudi Arabia witnessed a significant drop in temperatures on Thursday, as the National Meteorological Center revealed in its daily report a list of cities and governorates that recorded the lowest temperatures, amidst winter weather prevailing in the northern and southern parts of the country.
Al-Qurayyat records the lowest temperature in the Kingdom
Al-Qurayyat Governorate topped the list with a low of 3 degrees Celsius , making it the coldest region in the Kingdom today. This drop coincides with the cold waves that typically affect northern regions at this time of year. Al-Qurayyat was not alone on this list of cold weather; other cities also recorded very low temperatures, prompting residents to take necessary precautions.
List of lowest recorded temperatures
According to data from the National Center for Meteorology, the ranking of the least hot cities is as follows:
- Al Qurayyat: 3 degrees Celsius.
- Khamis Mushait: 4 degrees Celsius.
- Abha: 5 degrees Celsius.
- Tarif: 5 degrees Celsius.
Influencing geographical and climatic factors
The extreme temperature variations and sharp drops in these areas are due to consistent geographical and climatic factors. The governorates of Al-Qurayyat and Tarif are located in the far north, near the Jordanian border, and are directly affected by cold air masses coming from Siberia and Eastern Europe, making them susceptible to frost and temperatures that sometimes fall below zero during the peak of winter.
In contrast, the reasons for the cold weather differ in southern regions such as Abha and Khamis Mushait. Despite their southern location, the high altitude above sea level (the Sarawat Mountains) plays the main role in lowering temperatures, as the temperature decreases with increasing altitude, giving these areas a cold climate in winter and a mild climate in summer, which is characteristic of the climate of the Asir region in general.
The importance of following weather reports and exercising caution
This data is of paramount importance to citizens and residents, especially regarding planning daily activities or traveling on highways that may experience fog or frost in the early morning hours. Civil Defense and other relevant authorities consistently advise wearing heavy winter clothing and exercising caution when using home heating appliances to ensure public safety, as well as driving carefully in elevated and open areas.
