Truck Service Center Project at King Fahd Airport in Dammam

The Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce announced a major strategic initiative aimed at reshaping the region's logistics landscape, in collaboration with the Eastern Province Development Authority and Dammam Airports Company. This initiative involves launching a vital project to establish and operate an integrated service center and dedicated truck parking facilities within the King Fahd International Airport complex, a move designed to provide fundamental solutions to the challenges of land transport.

National context and ambitious vision

This project cannot be separated from the broader context of the economic transformations underway in Saudi Arabia as part of Vision 2030, specifically the National Transport and Logistics Strategy launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. The Kingdom seeks to solidify its position as a global logistics hub connecting three continents. The Eastern Province, by virtue of its geographical location and industrial weight, is a cornerstone of this strategy, serving as the gateway to the Gulf and home to major ports and industrial cities.

The establishment of this logistics center comes to complement the efforts aimed at raising the efficiency of supply chains, as it will operate as an advanced logistics support area serving the movement of intra-regional trade and transit traffic that passes through the roads of the Eastern Province towards the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the rest of the Kingdom’s regions.

Project details and strategic location

The new project is located specifically on the GCC Road in the southbound direction, a carefully chosen site to serve as a key hub for both through and local heavy transport. The project aims directly to eliminate the haphazard truck congestion that has long plagued the streets and roads of Dammam and its residential neighborhoods, providing a safe and organized alternative equipped with all the necessary services for drivers and transport companies.

This move is an integral part of the comprehensive plan for the development of Al-Bayda Governorate, where the new center will act as a vital artery supporting the logistics sector and contribute to organizing the flow of goods with high efficiency in line with the rapid economic growth of the region, thus ensuring the sustainability of trade.

Economic impact and enhancing road safety

In addition to economic objectives, the project's engineering plan focuses on important social and security dimensions, most notably improving road safety on highways and internal roads. By diverting heavy truck traffic away from the city center and towards a specialized service area, pressure on internal road infrastructure will be reduced, traffic accidents will be decreased, and the city's urban landscape will be enhanced.

The Chamber extended an open invitation to specialized national companies and institutions to compete for prequalification to implement this project, emphasizing that this collaboration between the Eastern Province Development Authority and Dammam Airports Company exemplifies the integration of roles among stakeholders to address operational challenges. The logistics center is expected to represent a qualitative leap in the Eastern Province's transportation system, enhancing its investment appeal as a leading logistics hub in the Middle East.
