King Salman Center supports Yemen's health sector with two agreements in Al Mahrah and Al Hudaydah

As part of the ongoing humanitarian efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid to strengthen the medical services system in Yemen by signing two new agreements aimed at providing urgent and sustainable health care in the governorates of Hodeidah and Al Mahrah.

The center, represented by Assistant General Supervisor for Operations and Programs, Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, signed the two agreements via video conference with partner civil society organizations at the center's headquarters in Riyadh. This step comes in response to the growing needs of the Yemeni health sector, which is facing significant challenges due to the ongoing crisis.

Strengthening healthcare in Hodeidah (Phase 10)

The first agreement included launching the tenth phase of the emergency medical and nutritional clinics project for displaced people in Al Hudaydah Governorate. This project is a lifeline for more than 300,544 beneficiaries , focusing on providing a comprehensive package of health services.

The services provided under this agreement include:

  • Integrative healthcare and therapeutic nutrition to combat malnutrition.
  • Immunization and basic vaccination services for children.
  • Reproductive health and prenatal care.
  • Combating and preventing epidemic diseases is a vital aspect in light of the spread of epidemics in coastal areas.
  • Providing the necessary medicines, medical solutions, and laboratory supplies to ensure the continued operation of clinics.
  • Activating the referral, emergency and injury treatment system.

Kidney dialysis center in Al-Mahra (Phase Four)

The second agreement focused on supporting kidney failure patients in Al Mahrah Governorate through the implementation of the fourth phase of the kidney dialysis center project in Al Ghaydah District. The project aims to provide free, specialized care services to preserve patients' lives and alleviate their financial and health burdens.

According to the agreement, services will be provided to 430 patients monthly , at a rate of 5,160 regular dialysis sessions, in addition to 20 emergency sessions. The project is not limited to treatment sessions alone, but also includes securing essential medications and localizing healthcare services, thus contributing to strengthening the health sector's infrastructure in the governorate.

Context of Saudi support for Yemen

These agreements are of paramount strategic importance given the critical health situation in Yemen. After years of conflict, the infrastructure of hospitals and health centers has been under immense strain, making external support essential for the continued provision of services to the population. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, is one of the largest donors to Yemen, with its projects extending beyond immediate relief to include development and health initiatives aimed at ensuring the sustainability of services.

The center’s continued renewal of operating contracts (reaching the tenth phase in Hodeidah and the fourth in Al-Mahra) reflects the Kingdom’s long-term commitment to the Yemeni people, to ensure that treatment is not interrupted for the most vulnerable groups, specifically displaced persons and patients with chronic diseases.
