The Meteorology Department warns of rain and wind in Mecca, Jeddah, and several other governorates

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important weather alert on Friday regarding the expected weather conditions in the Makkah region, indicating the possibility of light rain and weather changes that may affect horizontal visibility in several governorates.

The center explained in its daily report that the weather conditions affect several vital governorates, namely: Al-Lith, Al-Qunfudhah, Al-Ardiyat, Khulais, Jeddah, and Rabigh. These rains are expected to be accompanied by other weather phenomena, including increased surface wind activity, reduced horizontal visibility, and the possibility of thunderstorms, requiring caution while driving and traveling.

The importance of adhering to safety instructions

Amid these weather fluctuations, official calls from the Civil Defense and relevant authorities are renewed, urging citizens and residents to exercise caution. In such situations, the importance of staying away from floodplains and valleys, and avoiding low-lying areas where rainwater may accumulate, is always emphasized, especially in open areas and on highways connecting the governorates of the Makkah region, such as the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway and the coastal road.

The role of meteorology and modern technologies

This alert comes as part of the National Center of Meteorology's ongoing efforts to monitor weather conditions and protect lives and property. The center utilizes the latest technologies in weather monitoring, including weather radars and satellites, to issue accurate early warnings that enhance the preparedness of service and security agencies to respond to any weather-related emergency.

climatic and geographical context

The Makkah region boasts a diverse geography, encompassing both coastal areas and mountainous highlands, making it susceptible to rapid weather fluctuations, particularly during seasonal transitions. While rainfall in these regions is of significant environmental importance, it always requires careful management due to the topography, which can contribute to rapid water runoff.

The center indicated that the rainy conditions will continue - God willing - until 6 pm today, calling on everyone to follow the continuous updates through official channels and trusted social media accounts to get the most accurate information about weather developments.
