King Salman Center: Distributing food baskets to displaced people in Sudan

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leading humanitarian efforts to support affected populations worldwide, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its generous support by distributing food baskets in Sudan. This relief campaign recently targeted displaced families in the Qaysan locality of Blue Nile State, providing 1,000 complete food baskets that benefited approximately 6,088 individuals. This initiative falls under the “Madad” program, dedicated to supporting the brotherly Sudanese people until 2026, with the aim of alleviating the harsh living conditions they are experiencing due to the current crisis.

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan and the Kingdom's relief role

Since mid-2023, Sudan has been experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis as a result of ongoing armed conflicts, which have displaced millions of civilians from their homes in search of safety and food. In this complex historical context, the importance of urgent humanitarian interventions to save lives is paramount. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, has undertaken the responsibility of standing with the Sudanese people. These efforts have not been limited to providing food, but have also included providing shelter and healthcare, reflecting the Kingdom's longstanding commitment to supporting humanitarian stability in the Arab and African regions, and reaffirming the values of Islamic and humanitarian solidarity and mutual support during times of crisis.

Food basket distribution continues in Sudan: Omdurman as a model

The aid convoys did not stop at Blue Nile State, but extended to other areas severely affected by the conflict. In this context, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center implemented another campaign that included the distribution of food baskets in Sudan, specifically in Omdurman locality, Khartoum State. During this campaign, 800 food baskets were distributed to displaced families and those returning to their areas, contributing to meeting the basic food needs of approximately 4,994 individuals. Targeting areas like Omdurman, which has witnessed repeated waves of displacement and return, highlights the Center's meticulous planning in reaching the most vulnerable and needy groups in a timely manner to ensure their continued dignified living.

The expected impact of humanitarian aid on various levels

This humanitarian aid is of paramount importance, extending far beyond simply providing daily food. Locally, the distribution of food baskets contributes to enhancing food security for displaced families and reduces malnutrition rates, particularly among children, women, and the elderly, who are the most vulnerable. Regionally, stabilizing the living conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) within Sudan reduces the influx of refugees into neighboring countries, thus alleviating the economic and social pressure on those nations. Internationally, these initiatives reinforce the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's position as a major donor in the global humanitarian arena and call upon the international community to intensify its efforts and focus its attention on the Sudanese crisis to ensure the continued flow of aid and provide a safe and stable environment for affected civilians.
