King Salman Relief Center distributes food baskets in Marib

As part of the ongoing humanitarian efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its generous support to the brotherly Yemeni people. The Center recently distributed 1,230 food baskets in Al-Wadi District of Marib Governorate, helping to meet the basic needs of 8,610 individuals from the most vulnerable families. This vital step is part of the second phase of the Emergency Food Intervention Project in Yemen, which aims to ensure food security for affected groups under the current circumstances.

The historical context of support for Yemen through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen stems from years of conflict that have led to a severe deterioration of infrastructure and the economy, leaving millions of Yemenis in dire need of emergency assistance. In this context, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has emerged as a major supporter of Yemen, establishing the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm abroad. Since its inception, the Center has prioritized the Yemeni crisis, implementing hundreds of relief projects across the food, health, shelter, and education sectors, aiming to alleviate the harsh conditions faced by the Yemeni people and restore stability to their communities.

Restoring hope to those affected: Opening the prosthetic limb center in Taiz

In addition to providing food aid, the center places great emphasis on the health and rehabilitation sector. The project to operate the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center in Taiz Governorate provided a range of medical services to 870 beneficiaries who had lost limbs during the month of April. This vital project delivered 2,571 specialized medical services. Males comprised 61% of the beneficiaries, while females made up 39%. Internally displaced persons constituted 18% of the beneficiaries, and residents 82%. These comprehensive services included the distribution, fitting, and maintenance of prosthetics, as well as the provision of physiotherapy and specialized medical consultations that help patients reintegrate into society and resume their normal lives.

The local, regional and international impact of humanitarian aid

These humanitarian interventions are of paramount importance and have a multifaceted impact. Locally, this aid contributes to saving lives, improving living standards, and alleviating the immense pressure on Yemen’s overstretched health sector. Regionally, providing food and healthcare reduces waves of mass displacement and refuge, thus enhancing the stability of the region as a whole. Internationally, these efforts reflect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international humanitarian conventions and highlight its leading role in responding to global crises in cooperation with UN and international organizations.

This comprehensive support comes as an extension of the strategic humanitarian projects provided by the Kingdom to raise the capabilities of the health and food sector, and as a serious and continuous attempt to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people, and to build a safer and more stable future for future generations.
