King Salman Relief Center supports water supply in Al-Khokha, Yemen

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continues its tireless efforts to support the brotherly Yemeni people, having implemented a water supply and environmental sanitation project in Al-Khawkhah District, Al-Hudaydah Governorate, which benefited 16,170 individuals during January. This project is part of a series of humanitarian interventions provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the crisis.
The center's efforts during this period included pumping enormous quantities of clean water, in addition to carrying out vital environmental sanitation work, which included:
- 4,774,000 liters of water suitable for domestic use were pumped into the beneficiaries' tanks.
- Pumping 974,000 liters of potable water.
- 815 deliveries were carried out to remove waste from displaced persons camps, contributing to maintaining a healthy environment.
- More than 93 cubic meters of sewage water were dried to reduce the spread of epidemics.
- Maintenance of 16 temporary restrooms to ensure their sustainability.
- Conducting a water quality test to ensure its safety and compliance with health standards.
The general context of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen
This aid comes amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, one of the world's worst. Years of conflict have devastated vital infrastructure, including water and sanitation networks, leaving millions of people, particularly internally displaced persons, vulnerable to waterborne diseases such as cholera. The Al-Khawkhah district in Hodeidah has received a large influx of displaced families, further straining already scarce resources and making such projects a lifeline for the population.
Project importance and expected impact
This project's importance extends beyond simply providing water; it also encompasses protecting public health and preventing disease, a top priority in fragile environments. Providing clean water and proper waste management directly contributes to breaking the cycle of disease transmission, preserves the dignity of displaced families, and alleviates the burden on women and children who often bear the responsibility of fetching water from distant and unsafe sources. Regionally, these efforts reflect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading role in humanitarian work and its commitment to supporting the stability of Yemen and the region.
The pivotal role of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, established in 2015, serves as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm, implementing hundreds of projects in dozens of countries worldwide. Its programs in Yemen cover vital sectors such as food security, health, shelter, and education, in coordination with UN agencies and international and local organizations to ensure aid reaches those who need it most. These ongoing projects underscore the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to standing with the Yemeni people and providing the necessary support to overcome their hardship.
