King Salman Center expands its aid in Yemen, Afghanistan and Lebanon

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leading role in international humanitarian work, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to expand its relief and development services to include multiple vital sectors in three countries: Yemen, Afghanistan, and Lebanon. These initiatives come in response to the urgent needs of the most vulnerable populations and embody the Kingdom’s mission to extend a helping hand to those in need around the world without discrimination.

Supporting people with disabilities and eradicating illiteracy in Yemen

Coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the center intensified its efforts in Yemen's Lahj Governorate, distributing a comprehensive package of educational and technical materials and supplies. This support targeted disability care associations and literacy centers, as part of an ambitious project to address local capacity-building needs.

The aid included providing modern school desks, computers with accessories, and specialized educational and recreational equipment, in addition to enhancing security and safety measures in the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Deaf, Mute and Blind, the School for People with Special Needs in Al-Hawta City, and a number of associations in the districts of Habil Jabr and Halimin in Radfan.

This project is of strategic importance as it is not limited to in-kind support only, but aims to build the institutional capacities of government centers in 6 Yemeni governorates (Aden, Hadramawt, Al Dhale’e, Lahj, Shabwa and Al Mahrah), targeting the rehabilitation of 29 centers for people with disabilities and 24 literacy schools, which contributes to integrating these groups into society and empowering them educationally.

Strengthening health security and combating epidemics in Taiz

In a related development within the health sector, the King Salman Center has given considerable attention to combating epidemics in Yemen, organizing a specialized workshop in Taiz Governorate to train technicians in central laboratories. The workshop, held in cooperation with the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Public Health and Population, focused on mechanisms for collecting, testing, and analyzing water and food samples.

This step comes as part of the cholera response project, as water and food contamination is the primary cause of the epidemic's spread. The Deputy Governor of Taiz for Health Affairs, Ilan Abdulhaq, affirmed that enhancing the skills of technical personnel in epidemiological surveillance is a cornerstone in mitigating health risks and improving the quality of medical services provided to citizens, reflecting the center's vision of providing sustainable solutions to health crises.

Supporting food security in Afghanistan and emergency services in Lebanon

Regionally, Saudi Arabia's humanitarian efforts extended to Afghanistan, where the center distributed 2,000 food baskets in Baghlan province, benefiting 2,000 families who had returned to their homeland. This initiative falls under the 2025-2026 Food Security and Emergency Support Project, aimed at alleviating the hardship faced by returning families and providing them with the basic necessities for a dignified life.

In Lebanon, the center continued its funding of ambulance transport services through the ambulance service of the Sabil al-Salam Social Association in the Minieh region. The service carried out 23 ambulance missions in one week, transporting patients and the injured to and from hospitals. This vital project benefits Syrian and Palestinian refugees, as well as the Lebanese host community, thus alleviating the burden on the local health sector and enhancing the speed of response to emergencies.

These simultaneous efforts in the education, health and food sectors confirm the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm commitment to supporting humanitarian stability in affected countries and strengthening the infrastructure of basic services to ensure a better life for brotherly and friendly peoples.
