Saudi Arabia weather today: Al Qurayyat 3 degrees and fog on the highlands

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia announced details of today's expected weather, noting a significant drop in temperatures across the northern regions, reflecting the peak of winter in these areas. Al-Qurayyat Governorate recorded the lowest temperature at only 3 degrees Celsius, prompting residents to take precautions and wear warm winter clothing.
Temperatures recorded in the cities of the Kingdom
In a detailed analysis of minimum temperatures, Al-Qurayyat was not the only area experiencing extreme cold. Khamis Mushait came in second with a low of 4 degrees Celsius, followed by Abha and Tarif at 5 degrees Celsius. This climatic variation reflects the Kingdom's geographical nature, where northern regions like Al-Qurayyat and Tarif are affected by cold air masses from the north, while the mountainous terrain and altitude play a major role in lower temperatures in southern regions like Abha and Khamis Mushait.
Expected weather phenomena: Fog and general stability
The National Center for Meteorology explained that the general weather pattern for Thursday, January 8th, is stable across most regions of the Kingdom. However, the report highlighted an important weather phenomenon that requires attention: the formation of fog during the night and early morning hours. This chance of fog is concentrated in parts of the Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan regions, as well as the southern parts of the Eastern Province. Fog is a phenomenon that directly affects horizontal visibility, requiring drivers on highways and in mountainous areas to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations for driving in unstable weather conditions.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding maritime navigation and the state of water bodies, the meteorological report detailed the movement of winds and waves as follows:
- Red Sea: Surface winds are variable in direction; they are northwesterly to northerly in the northern part, shifting to southeasterly and southwesterly in the central and southern parts. Wind speeds range between 12 and 35 km/h, and may increase to 45 km/h towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, causing waves to reach up to two meters in that area. Sea conditions are generally slight to moderate.
- Arabian Gulf: Northwesterly winds prevail at speeds ranging between 10 and 28 km/h, with wave heights ranging from half a meter to one meter, making the sea state light and suitable for normal marine activities.
This report comes as part of the ongoing daily monitoring carried out by the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of citizens and residents, and to provide accurate information that helps in planning daily activities and travel between the far-flung regions of the Kingdom.
