King Salman Complex celebrates the Arabic language at the United Nations

In a move reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading role in serving the Arabic language and enhancing its international presence, the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language its celebratory events for World Arabic Language Day at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. These events embody the Kingdom's commitment to supporting Arab and Islamic identity in major international forums.
Strategic partnership to enhance international presence
The events, which run from December 2nd to 4th, were launched under the patronage of His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Academy. This edition is distinguished by a close strategic partnership with the Kingdom's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, reflecting the concerted national efforts to solidify the status of the Arabic language as one of the six official languages of the international organization, and to highlight its historical and cultural depth.
Historical background and significance of the event
This celebration is particularly significant as it comes in preparation for World Arabic Language Day, which falls on December 18th each year. This date marks the historic 1973 resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, adding Arabic to the list of official and working languages of the UN. Through these early events, the King Salman Complex aims to highlight the beauty of the Arabic language, its capacity to adapt to scientific and cultural advancements, and its pivotal role as a bridge for communication between different peoples and cultures.
A comprehensive cultural and scientific program
The Academy explained that the celebration includes a rich program combining scientific and cultural aspects. Specialized dialogue sessions will be held to discuss the status of the Arabic language in international organizations, the challenges it faces, and ways to enhance its use in international diplomacy. Alongside these sessions, an introductory exhibition will showcase the Academy's most prominent projects and scholarly publications, in addition to a special section dedicated to handicrafts and arts related to Arab culture. This will provide visiting diplomats and representatives of member states with a vibrant, interactive experience highlighting the richness of the Arab cultural landscape.
Saudi Vision 2030 and the Arabic Language
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Academy, Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi, affirmed that this international cultural initiative comes in response to the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 , which places great importance on strengthening national and cultural identity and supporting the Arabic language as a vessel for Islamic civilization. Al-Washmi pointed out that the support and continuous follow-up of His Royal Highness the Minister of Culture directly contribute to enabling the Academy to achieve its strategic goals of disseminating and protecting the Arabic language and developing linguistic tools and standards that serve both native and non-native speakers across the globe.
