New King Fahd Causeway tolls 2026: Prices and discount packages

The King Fahd Causeway Authority is preparing to implement the new toll structure for crossing the causeway linking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026. This step aims to regulate traffic flow and improve operational efficiency, including the activation of instant discount packages of up to 40%, while exempting specific social groups from any increases to ensure their continued ease of travel.
A vital artery and a long history
The King Fahd Causeway, officially opened in 1986, is more than just a land crossing; it is a vital economic and social artery connecting the two brotherly nations. For decades, the bridge has facilitated trade and tourism, witnessing the passage of millions of travelers annually. The recent upgrades to tolls and technological systems are part of a comprehensive development phase aimed at accommodating increasing traffic volume and enhancing the traveler experience, in line with the development goals of both kingdoms to bolster the logistics and tourism sectors.
Details of the new fees and exempted categories
In less than 72 hours, toll gates will begin collecting the updated rates for vehicles and trucks traveling in one direction. The tolls have been set at 35 riyals for private cars and motorcycles, 55 riyals for minibuses, 70 riyals for large buses, and an additional 7 riyals per ton for trucks.
Out of social responsibility, the organization took into account the humanitarian dimensions in its decision, as the regulatory framework protected three main categories from any additional financial burdens, keeping the fees at their current levels without change for “students”, “people with disabilities”, and “frequent travelers”, in appreciation of their circumstances and frequent commitments.
Smart packages and flexible savings options
The implementation of the new fees coincides with the launch of a "smart packages" via the "Jisr" app, giving travelers multiple savings options:
- Frequent Flyer Package: Offers a 40% discount worth 850 riyals, valid for one month or 40 crossings, and is the ideal option for daily travelers.
- Frequent Flyer Package: Offers a discount of up to 20% worth 1120 riyals, and is valid for a full year or 40 crossings, making it a long-term economical option.
- Round trip package: Designed for travelers who have planned their trips in advance, with a 15% discount and a value of 60 riyals, and its validity lasts for one week.
Digital transformation via "Absher Travel"
In the context of automation, the Absher platform explained the details of the "Absher Travel" service, which enables citizens and residents to pay bridge fees and optionally insure their vehicles in advance before arriving at the border crossing. The service requires booking the trip three hours or more in advance and arriving within three hours of the scheduled time. Upon arrival, a location verification or biometric verification is required to ensure expedited procedures.
Expected impact locally and regionally
This new regulation is expected to significantly reduce waiting times at border crossings, as the new system encourages advance travel planning and the use of digital channels. Economically, these measures will facilitate the smooth flow of trucks and trade, while the discounted packages will incentivize tourism between the two countries, thus strengthening economic integration between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and supporting market activity in both the Eastern Province and Manama.
